When I hear the word "universal," I imagine it means it can be used on any existing child locks that can be opened with a magnet. When the package arrived, I had my wife open it and install the extra keys in the area where we needed them to open the Child cabinet locks. I asked if she was sure the keys didn't work, and she said no. Make sure it goes behind the lock exactly. She opened the cabinet with the old keys and then tried the new key to see if it would move, but it didn't. She whined and screamed at me for taking time out of her day to do something I should have done myself. br>br>When I got home, she said she couldn't figure it out. I slid it over the counter and opened the cabinet door. The cabinet door did not open because of this key, but I used too much force and pulled the double-sided tape off the lock, which was an oops! I tried again after retaping the locks, but nothing worked. It worked after I did something stupid and turned it backwards (handle side). The magnet inside had been reversed! All three magnets had to be flipped after I opened the key. They have a lot of prying marks on them because they were well glued, but they are now functional. br>br>I'm glad I remembered the letters N and S on magnets. However, the term "universal" should not be used in the title. My new keys appear to have been swallowed by my dog, which I had to retrieve the next day. This is probably the best description I can come up with right now for this product.
We bought these after making the mistake of allowing our toddler to play with the magnet key for the cabinet locks. . . which naturally resulted in it being lost. Unfortunately, despite being labeled "universal," the magnet isn't nearly strong enough to open the lock (which is a basic lock). I'd like to point out that our cabinets are standard, everyday types. There's nothing special about it, and it's not thicker than the rest. I'm not sure which cabinet they'd "pull" through.
They aren't as powerful as the magnets I used to open my cabinet locks from the supplier, but they do the job! After our toddler got into every bathroom in the house, we needed a few spares. This allows me to keep magnets in both the bathrooms and the kitchen.
Magnets aren't as strong as they were before. I tried rotating the key and trying different ones, but it just comes down to the fact that they aren't strong enough. The original magnets were much stronger and more responsive, allowing the magnetic locking mechanism to be unlocked almost instantly.
I was looking for a replacement for a child proof lock magnet that had gone missing.
I worked on the locks for the "Skyla Homes" brand. It functions in the same way as the originals. Why did we wait until we'd used up all of our originals before purchasing replacements? HAHA!.
We purchased these magnets to replace two that were melted in the oven, but the magnet in these isn't as strong, so it won't work for all of the drawers and cabinets. They are durable and fit some of our cabinets, but not all.
We ordered these after losing our other magnets, and they work just as well!.
