Questions & Answers

Is this only for metal file cabinets, or can it also be used on wooden ones? a drill bit for a file cabinet locking bar beige - 46" in length for a four-drawer file cabinet?

It would almost certainly work on a wooden filing cabinet. However, you'll need to use different screws, such as a round head wood screw with a diameter small enough to fit through the four hinge holes. The only fasteners used are the hinges shown in the illustration, which each have two holes. The screws that go into the wood would need to be much longer than the sheet metal screws, perhaps 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches or even longer, depending on the tolerance of the wooden frame. You should also use a drill bit that is about half the screw's diameter. Following the directions, I found it to be very simple to install on a metal cabinet. Best wishes to you.

Is it possible to use 2 for added security? Isn't there one on either side of the cabinet?

Yes, you can install a second security bar on the opposite side, which is very simple to do thanks to the special bit that comes with it. I'd never drilled any type of metal before, but I was able to complete this task with ease! The directions are simple and straightforward. With the security bar, you'll get two keys.

Is it possible to lock four drawers in a five-drawer cabinet using this method?

Hello! Yes, this file locking bar is compatible with your filing cabinet. Make sure the bar is in the middle of the cabinet when installing it. It will leave 3 as a result of this action. The top of the cabinet and the bottom of the cabinet must be free of the file locking bar by 125 inches. You'll be fine as long as the file locking bar covers a portion of each of the four cabinets. Selected User Reviews For File Cabinet Locking Bar with Drill Bit - Beige - 46" Long - for use on a 4 Drawer File Cabinet

It was simple to put together, had a perfect fit, and was exactly what I was looking for
5/5

I'm really happy with it. This device is well-made, performs as expected, and was exactly what I needed to secure an old 4-wheeler. There are no locks on the drawers in this metal filing cabinet. If you're comfortable drilling in metal (be careful of the shavings), and especially if you have a power screwdriver or a drill with a cross-head, it's a breeze to install. tip bit. It's also reversible, so you can put it on either side, and when it's open, it's about as unobtrusive as you can get for what it is. In terms of security, I believe it would be easier to pry one of the drawers open on the opposite side of the file cabinet than to pry this off. In fact, if I were really concerned about the cabinet's security, I'd just put one on each side with two locks that are the same keyed or have the same combination.

It performs exactly as you stated

I thought this would be a difficult task to complete, but wow, how simple can a task be? It took about 5 minutes to set up. The best way to keep this file cabinet safe is to make it look like Fort Knox.

It really works
5/5

I've purchased a few. If you know what you're doing, it's simple to set up. The instructions are clear and concise. My husband was the one who did it; he's a natural at it. So far, it's been simple to use and appears to be quite durable. No one has attempted to break in, so I can't comment on how long it will last. It appears to be a long-lasting product. I bought them to keep personal belongings and files safe while we have home healthcare workers in our house caring for a family member. It's so simple to use that even my 82-year-old mother can do it. When my family sees it, they all adore it and express their desire to own one as well.

The product description is deceptive
3/5

The item does not perform as expected. According to the item description, 1/2" of clearance is required on all sides for the item to mount to the cabinet. My file cabinet has 3/4" clearance on all sides and could not be made to fit flat against it in order to work. Finally, I measured this locking bar and discovered that it requires approximately 7/8" to properly mount and operate. I've called three times and left messages for customer service, and I'm still waiting for a response one week later. This company stinks, and I'll never do business with them again.

I bought a bunch of used filing cabinets that didn't come with keys, and they worked perfectly
5/5

This was a simple and quick method of locking the drawers. If you're putting several cabinets next to each other, make sure the fronts are flush, or the bar will open too far and block the drawers on the other cabinet. This will not happen if they are flush. In any case, A. Jen.

Installation can be done on your own
5/5

The product did what it said it would. If you're using a quick release drill with hex shaft drill bits, I'd say the enclosed bit isn't going to cut it. I tried to use it, but it kept slipping out of my grip, so I tightened the chuck. Also, if you have multiple file cabinets next to each other, you'll need a longer drill bit because the drill chuck will hit the lock bar unless the lock bar is completely open or you have a longer drill bit, which hex shaft drill bits usually are. A center punch is also recommended because metal cabinets are slick and the drill bit will drift when drilling the hole at first. In addition, because the enclosed instructions are in such small print, I recommend watching one of the Utube videos - Installing a lock bar can be found via a Google search. I did it by myself, but having a second person to hold the bar while marking and drilling holes would have been beneficial. Take your time and follow the rule of measuring twice and drilling once.

Your filing cabinets will be safe and secure
5/5

It took some time to figure out how to put it together. It won't take 5 minutes, but it might take 20 minutes or more, depending on the steel's hardness. With the self-drilling tool, one cabinet was quickly drilled. Using the screws that came with the locks as a tap. The other cabinet had to be prepared ahead of time. Pay attention to which way is "up" when drilling and even then, the screws were difficult to insert. I didn't, and I installed one upside-down, which I now have to re-install. install.

Drill Bit for File Cabinet Locking Bar What a brilliant idea for safeguarding your sensitive documents and personal data
5/5

I installed it in about 20 minutes after it arrived yesterday. I ordered a recommended Masterlock to make sure I had the right lock. In this day and age, when identity theft occurs every 30 minutes in the United States, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! There's even a drill bit included. You can't go wrong with that.
