Questions & Answers
I ordered three, and each one is different in terms of keying. These are not able to be keyed alike at this price, as far as I know.
The distance between the bezel on the front and the cam on the back is 7/8 inch. The diameter of the lock is unknown to me. I threw it out because it didn't fit in the hole in my locker.
You'll need to call Prime-Line and give them your model number and key number.
It can be rekeyed if you bring it to a locksmith who specializes in wafer locks.

It works, but it's a very low-tech solution. quality. I gave it four stars because it works and is extremely inexpensive, but the quality is poor. The keys get stuck in the lock and are made of a flimsy metal that isn't as strong as regular keys - I have the ability to bend them with my fingers! The hardest part of installing it was getting the locking nut on the lock body because it was mangled and damaged. However, here's why, if I ever needed another lock, I would reluctantly purchase this one: br>br>* The key profile is a standard one, with blanks available from any key copy shop. (It's a Y11, in case you were wondering. ) )br>* It isn't a key- hold on to br>* It includes extra cams and other parts to allow you to customize the installation. I had to install this on a very unusual mailbox, and I had no idea what kind of camera would work. br>* It'll set you back under $5.
I needed a new lock for my MAC tool boxes, which had become worn out after twenty years. The original was a double-cut key, which was exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, there aren't any. This lock was a close second; it wasn't quite as strong as my original, but it came close. It has a single cut key, which is less secure, but you're only keeping honest people out in the first place, and a pro can get through almost any lock. This lock appears to be a few years old, and the low cost makes it simple to replace. I would purchase this product again.
With a trim collar, the maximum door thickness is 1/2", and without a trim collar, the maximum door thickness is 5/8". According to what others have said, the listing states "1 In. "The maximum thickness of the door. " I just mounted one on a 5/8" thick wooden drawer front, so that's clearly incorrect. The only way I could get it to thread at all was to remove the trim collar, and even then it was difficult. Anything thicker than 5/8" is out of the question; it's not going to happen. If you want the trim collar on the front, I wouldn't expect it to fit anything thicker than 1/2" thick. br>br>This model U9943 is also listed on the manufacturer's website as having a maximum thickness of 9/16". br>br>If you need a thicker drawer/cabinet lock, the model U9945 (stainless steel face) or U9946 (brass face) will fit doors up to 13/16" thick (and they both have the same 3/4" diameter hole). The information on this page is taken directly from the manufacturer's website.
This is the second one we've bought. The first was for a VHS/DVD player for which we had misplaced the key. Because the bracket piece was already attached to the cabinet, this item was ideal. When we bought it for a similar cabinet to store kids' books and craft supplies, I didn't realize the bracket side had to be attached in a specific way. It didn't turn out to be a good idea. We don't have a way to attach the bracket to the cabinet, and when we tried to figure out how to do it, we couldn't. We ended up completely destroying the event. So, if you only require the lock side of this, it is adequate. However, if you need to use all of the pieces and attach it to something that hasn't had something similar installed previously, you'll need to use all of the pieces. If that's the case, it's not a good idea. br>br>On a related note, the kids tried to open the DVD cabinet as soon as we put it up, and one of the keys was easily broken. It's a good thing they sent two of them! These keys are unfortunately quite cheap if a child can bend them with very little effort. I wasn't expecting anything too heavy-duty, but I didn't anticipate a young child being able to bend the key so easily.
This is a good lock for the money; it's not super strong or hardened, but at this price and for most applications, it'll suffice; it's more of a deterrent than a way to keep kids or guests out of places they shouldn't be. The instructions are mediocre at best, but they do provide an explosion of the lock, which aids in installation and makes it relatively simple. Smooth is the key action.
I misplaced the key to my cabinet's lock. I was able to pick the lock and replace it with this one. Unfortunately, because my cabinet isn't standard, I had to grind one of the lock's tabs in order for it to turn without hitting the drawer above it. This is not the product's fault; after a minor adjustment, it functions exactly as it should.
Great lock; I purchased it to replace a cabinet lock for which I had lost the key, and it was simple to install. It's well-made, the key slides in and out smoothly, and I now have access to my cabinet again! I was particularly taken aback by the low price and high quality, two terms that are rarely used interchangeably these days. I could have gone to the hardware store, but with the cost of gas and the fact that I was a 'Prime' member, it was easier to order it here. This way, I wouldn't be able to procrastinate as much, and when it came to putting it in the door, I was pretty much forced to. After all, it was a little less expensive, and who doesn't like saving money? or two or three. If you're anything like me, order it and then stop what you're doing and install the damn thing when it arrives in the mail!.
Only three different keys exist for the eight locks. Customers can use our lockers for a fee. The same key cannot be used to open multiple lockers. It's extremely aggravating - I didn't notice the keys were identical until they were all installed. I'll have to remove them and return them now.
