It's a step up from the less expensive universal locks
4/5

This mailbox lock is a step up from the old one I replaced, and it's well worth the money over the low-cost universal locks. When I first got quotes from different locksmiths, they wanted to charge anywhere between $100 and $1,000. The broken mailbox lock will cost $200 to replace. However, one of the locksmiths was laid-back and suggested that I do it myself. For some reason, I'd never considered it before, so I started looking into locks and bought a universal lock from Prime-Line that turned out to be of poor quality and didn't fit properly. After being dissatisfied with my first attempt, I examined the locks on a few of the other mailboxes and noticed that some of them had "USPS L-" written on them. They have the number 1172 written on them, which I assume means they meet USPS requirements. Fortunately, one of those locks was available from third-party sellers on Amazon, so I purchased the CompX C9100 from Alliance Gadget. I received the lock in a yellow padded shipping envelope very quickly. The CompX C9100 arrived in a sealed poly bag, complete with a nut, three keys, and a mounting clip. Note: Because it didn't come with a cam, you'll need to either reuse the one from your old lock or purchase a new one. The C9100 works in a clockwise direction to open and close. The C9200 is identical to the C9100 except that it opens in the opposite direction; the C9100 is far nicer than the universal lock I tried first, and it even has a dustguard, which I overlooked on the old lock. The C9100 was also easier to install than the Prime-Line universal because the mounting clip slid on completely. The Prime-Line one would only go on about a third of the way. The clip is crucial because it prevents the entire lock from falling out or moving in any other way. After removing the old one, the installation took less than five minutes. The only tool I required was a pair of pliers, which I used to secure the nut and mounting clip. The only complaint I have is that the keys don't slide in and out smoothly, but I'll just pick up some graphite powder to help with that.

Lock in the shape of a mailbox
5/5

The USPS informed me that there is a $50 fee. 00 for this lock, as well as a trip to Home Depot. The old-fashioned mailbox lock is $5 at Home Depot. It's the same size as the 97, but it's smaller and won't fit in the new mailbox because the new one has a different style hole with ears. This lock was a perfect fit and is nearly identical to the $50 lock available at the post office. So, if you're looking for a lock for your neighborhood mailbox and aren't sure if this one will fit the E-shaped hole, don't worry. The keys were a little difficult to insert and remove, so I brushed them against the wire wheel and lubricated them with graphite oil to loosen them up. This lock opens by turning it clockwise, indicating that the lock is on the left side of the mailbox and the hinges are on the right. Check to see if a counterclockwise lock is available for mailboxes that hinge on the left.

The lock is superb
5/5

When I misplaced my unit mailbox key, I had no choice but to pay a locksmith to open and replace my lock. This lock was a perfect match for my box. The most important thing to remember is to keep the cam (latch) in good working order, as this one does not come with one. I waited for my mailman, who opened the door for me so I could remove my lock, as other reviews stated that drilling the lock open could damage the cam. Using an adjustable wrench to unscrew the nut and pliers to remove and replace the clip, I was able to complete the task in a matter of minutes. The lock came with three working keys; they may stick slightly, but they open and close the mailbox without difficulty. The entire procedure took only 2 minutes and resulted in a significant financial savings.

Replacement for your mailbox lock that is a perfect fit
5/5

It took only two days for it to arrive. Thank you for your business, and congratulations on a job well done. Those of you who claim that this product was not a suitable replacement have clearly ordered the incorrect item. This is a CompX lock, which is the same brand as the mailbox lock. It was a very simple and quick process to replace the item. br>br>I went to the mailbox with the lock, pliers, a screwdriver (which I didn't use), and a ratchet with a 13mm socket on it. I took a step up to the mailbox and used the key to open it. Then, with the door still open, I returned the key to the lock position and removed it. I grabbed the ratchet and started the stopwatch on my phone. The ratchet was used to remove the nut, which I then placed in the mailbox with the nut and cam. I then took the lock out of the hole with the pliers after removing the retaining clip. Everything was stuffed into the mailbox. Then I took the new lock out of the box, removed the key, inserted it into the hole, and replaced the retaining clip with the pliers. The ratchet was then used to replace the cam and nut. I replaced the keys in the mailbox and shut it again. Then I pressed the power button on my phone to turn it off. br>br>The entire process took 2 minutes and 22 seconds, including the time it took to remove my tools from the bag I was carrying them in. That was a lot faster than I could have written this review. A+.

For the price, it's excellent
4/5

I purchased this product to replace the old one that was on the mail box at the new condo we recently purchased, but the previous owners were foreclosed and did not leave the mail box keys at the apartment. The bank's realtor was also unaware of the keys, and the property manager lacked a spare key. As a result, we were left to our own devices to figure out how to solve the problem. We found this guy online who posted instructions with pictures on how to DIY the lock and suggested this one after doing some research. So far, everything has gone well. My husband was able to complete the task in record time; however, this one does not come with a cam lock, so you will need to keep the cam from your old lock to use with this one, as we did. There is another product that is similar to this one but costs a little more and includes the cam lock, but we chose this one because we knew the old cam was in excellent condition. My husband also had to reverse the position of the mounting clip because when the clip is in the original position, the lock does not become firmly attached to the lock box and becomes loose, so he reversed it and solved the problem.
