I have the old style latches on my older RV and I find that I am not getting any water in it, but if I sprayed them directly, I would think water would get in. They are not water proof that I am aware of.
In this instance, there is no key to operate the lock it's just something that you twist to open it
It is not rusting, as I do not know. Using it to replace a broken latch on a storage bin in my camper was a real breeze. Previously, it did not have a thumb catch so it would be easier to open.
The answer is that not all things work out as planned or are a perfect fit, so you have to adapt. It was not a perfect fix out of the box, but I was able to get it working.

This is stuck. The patient has been observing for three This is garbage. It was important to me to work with an established name in RV accessories. I knew Camco was well known and sold at all the best My original plan was to opt for a "no-name" product, but it rusted almost immediately and now I can't turn it. It was installed this year to replace a keyed one I didn't want because I just needed a simple door to open and close The underside has not been taken apart yet in order to see if it can be cleaned and lubricated. Occasionally it got wet, as the screen got wet. The latches on an old motorhome stored outside that's 25 years old continue to work fine today. I only had this for 3 months before it rusted Clearly, this is an inadequate product for what it is intended to do.
In order to prevent you from making the same mistake as me, let me tell you my little goof. The Amazon listing states there are two of these. In one book it mentioned 5/8" and in another it mentioned It was 5/8" wide, which is what I ordered since that is what I measured my old latch to be. I then discovered that it didn't reach far enough inside to attach the backing nut when it arrived. My part is not available yet because the size refers to the LENGTH of the shaft, not its width, so I need the longer one, and I will have to wait another week before I can get it for.

I was very happy with the result. With this non locking one I replaced a locking one from my travel trailer and I'm so glad I did. This means that you might as well use one that is not locking or find one that is not the same key found on all RVs. For my water door, which I use this one for, I prefer a door that is not locked.
The latch works great, but I had to bend the locking arm for a tighter fit and then I had to use a rubber washer from a garden hose to space it further from the door. The wings of the latch would touch the door while it was turning on its own. Because it seals the hole, the rubber washer worked great.
Several RVs belong to us, each for a different reason. As a result, we have learned you don't need to lock all of the doors on the outside of Replacements for keyed locks such as these thumb cam locks are great. If your old locks are the same depth size, then you will get the same locks.
