You need wire that is rated for 50 amps if you're using a 50 amp breaker, so # 8 wire is what you need.

There is too much tripping in the circuit breaker. The circuit had a welder tripped every time the welder was turned on, and I couldn't get it to stop. It was not a problem after I added a 50 amp breaker.
One of the poles of the breaker was broken when it was delivered to me. It was easy to order a new one online and within a few clicks I had a new one (which worked flawlessly) on the way and a barcode to return the defective one. The whole process was very satisfactory to me.
