Questions & Answers

Is this the only thing you'll need to protect your home from power surges? A square d homeline surge protector appears to be a popular item to buy with this on Amazon. ?

This item serves as a first line of defense for me, but it is not my only line of defense. Depending on the value of the items being protected, I still recommend using surge protection power strips and UPS units as a second and third level of protection. The Homeline unit, on the other hand, provides the same level of whole-house protection as the BRSURGE unit, so it is not required to be used in conjunction with it.

I have a westinghouse panel (catalog number b20 4040c1) with br220 breakers. Is this going to be a good fit for the panel?

Yes. Eaton acquired the patent from Westinghouse. It's the same thing.

Is it necessary for me to have two if I have a subpanel? Is it possible to have one in the main panel and another in the subpanel?

Because you most likely want to protect against incoming surges, installing it in the main panel will also protect everything downstream in sub-panels. panels.

Will this Eaton surge protector work with a Cutler Hammer 42 breaker with a load center of 200 amps?

Only if the panel is from the CUTLER HAMMER BR SERIES. IF THE PANEL IS OF THE CH TYPE. The breaker panels are a TAN COLOR. IT CANNOT BE USED.

The surge protector was destroyed by just one surge
3/5

I turned off the electricity to my sub-station. panel. This surge protector is properly installed in my sub-station. panel. The breakers for 120 volts were all set to "on. " My single 220 volt breaker was set to "off. " I switched on the power to my sub-station. panel. My surge protector was lit up with green lights. My 220 volt breaker was turned on by flipping the breaker switch to "on. " The green lights in the room were turned off. If the green lights go out, the product label states that you must replace them. br>br>My 220 volt air conditioner is fine, but I no longer have surge protection. br>br>I went over the instructions again and again. There was no explanation for why this happened. I'm guessing there was a surge when I turned off the 220 volt breaker. This is my question. Is it true that the product is only effective during ONE surge? Who can afford to pay nearly $100 for a surge if that is the case? Before I blame the manufacturer, could someone please explain what I did wrong? Thank you very much.

Everything went off without a hitch! Please note the following disclaimer: Because I am not an electrician, anything I say here may be incorrect

If you need electrical work done, contact a licensed electrician. The panel is dangerous, and it has the potential to be extremely harmful! br>br>The previous occupant had a spa with a 50 amp gfci breaker. The plan was for me to take out the old breaker and replace it with the spd. I first tried one of those big suckers with a knockout that attaches to your box. However, there were no knockouts on the side of my panel box, and the wires were too short. I didn't want to use wire nuts in my panel because they appeared shabby, so I was out of luck. Then I found the br250sur, but it was a breaker as well as surge protection, and I didn't need a breaker; I only needed the type 2 spd. Furthermore, finding them was a nightmare. Then I came across the brsurge! What I was looking for. Because I already had the breaker slots open, I simply removed the old 50 amp gfci breaker, installed this, and was done in 5 minutes. (Long ago, I had removed the old wires and conduit from the box. ) In addition, I had reinstalled a conduit cap to cover the spa's hole in the bottom. )br>br>Tip: If you are looking for a unique way to express yourself, try using the words "innovative+ para You may already be aware that Eaton offers two types of breakers: ch and br. Many of my breakers say "Cutler-" so I assumed I had CH. On them, "hammer" However, my personality type is BR. If you want to know if you have an Eaton box, look at the color of it. If you have brown breakers, use CH; if you have black breakers, use BR.

It Works! Several years ago, I had a conversation with a friend
5/5

His wife was the one who built their retirement home. The power lines were struck by lightning a little later. All of his air conditioners, brand new appliances, and computer were destroyed. Other than that, there's a slew of other things. Not fun. With all of the money he spent on the house, the electrician who wired it said he was surprised he didn't opt for a whole-house surge protector. My friend stated that he had no knowledge of their existence. He was given one. religion is a plus spread the word about the surge protectors for your home to as many people as possible. Mom followed suit a short time later. Our retirement home was constructed by me. Because all of the utilities were buried, lightning appeared to be a minor issue, but the cost was insignificant. One was put in by the builder. A month later, lightning struck somewhere close to our house. with the exception of a few easily re-created arc that can be set- Our circuit breakers tripped due to a fault, but there was no damage to our home; however, several neighbors in the area had the same problem as my friend. While the warranties on the appliances covered them, the AC manufacturer had a great lawyer on their side. Damage caused by lightning was not covered by the AC warranty. Our builder was just amusing a client for me when this happened, but after that, he added it to his standard options list. br>br>There are several varieties. Surge protectors for the entire house are available in a variety of styles. I'm sure they all work, but I know for a fact that this one did. If you have a CB circuit panel, you should not order this. The only difference between BR circuit panels in which this works appears to be the size of the panels themselves. CB circuit panels, on the other hand, have a small metal tab that prevents the installation of BR breakers, including the BRSURGE. I'm curious as to why CB panels don't have a CBSURGE.

Easy! Make certain your circuit breakers are of the Br type
5/5

They're spaced 1 inch apart. If your breakers are spaced 3/4" apart, you won't be able to use this device. br>Despite the fact that the instructions do not state it, many on-line resources suggest it. This type of device should be installed above all other breakers, near the main power lines entering your breaker box, according to line references. This is unnecessary, in my opinion, because the heavy connection buses in your box have a very low impedance. During a surge, the protector's impedance is significantly lower. Put it in two unused breaker spots at the bottom of your other breakers to save yourself the trouble. I shortened the white neutral wire before installing it so that it only reached the neutral connection block in the breaker box. This is a good change because the smaller gauge wire in this connection could add a lot of impedance. It's best not to coil it. br>I'm the proud owner of a Square-shaped computer. When this device is inserted into the D breaker box, it appears to sit at an angle. No harm- The hot connections are fully engaged, forming a very strong connection.

Installation is simple and inexpensive
5/5

Unlike the other competitor for whole-house surge protection, this one is less expensive to buy, easier to install, and does not require the purchase of a double-pole circuit breaker. It will save you about $50. This surge protector took less than 5 minutes to install. It was simply inserted into the neutral/ground bus as any other double pole circuit breaker. It's ideal for built-in electrical panels that don't have enough room around them to accommodate other devices. The disadvantage is that you must open the electrical panel to check if the green lights are turned on and the surge protector is working.
