In my case, I have used it with Metal and have had no problems. Attaching them to the poles was done with weatherproof silicone.

This vent was installed into a cabinet to provide some light air convection to keep a small UPS cooler out of sight while I have my cable modem and cable modem installed. We have no problem with the vents in the cabinet, and it does not heat up, even in summer. The holes provided a perfect fit and snug security. I drilled a 4" hole for them. The only way to take them out is to give them a push at the bottom because once they're pushed in, they won't pop out again. Black plastic disappears into my room most of the time. They are amazing, high Reptile enclosures are one of the things I use them for. A second purchase is not out of the question for me.
I bought these for venting the tank of our dragon. The program seems to be in good working order.
Silicone is used as an installation medium.
