In terms of tools, I have a miter saw and a table The two of them (or even a circular saw) would work fine. Although you could easily cut it with a hand saw if you are familiar with it, I would probably avoid it unless you are experienced with them. As a matter of fact, it is hard wood.
Overlapped by 1/2", it's meant to look nice. 1/4" is the length of the overlap.
A 1/2" piece of material should be overlapping it. Across the bottom of the piece to the base of the overlap lip, there is a vertical plane of A horizontal length of 1/4 inch is measured on the lip.
It is up to you which to use. Between a hardwood floor and a tile floor, I used this threshold. My design was not going to be attached with glue, so I used small finishing nails instead.

Although it looks nice, I don't know if it is I also find that it sits a little high, but I can make do with it for what I need it for.
I'm very pleased with how it turned out!.
