Selected User Reviews For Genie 36179R.S Garage Door Opener Trolley Assembly Genuine Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Part

Carriage is made by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM)
3/5

The seller promptly responded to my question, allowing me to place an order for the product, which appears to be a genuine OEM part, similar to the one it replaced and as promised by the seller. The part works great, but it took a little extra force to engage with the lead screw of the Genie drive because it was new, so be careful when working on the third step of the ladder! When you remove the rail holding bolts, the lead screw rail is pushed against the garage door wall by the Genie drive mount brackets, which you must push back with one hand while removing the old carriage and installing the new one. br>br>I'm making changes to my previous product review because the Genie Carriage/Trolly broke the second time I used my garage door. The carriage linkage became disengaged from the lead screw rail after the plastic lip portion of the carriage assembly snapped completely. This is the exact failure depicted in photos by reviewer Genie door house owner in his/her one-star review on December 23, 2019. I mentioned in my first review that the carriage needed a little more force to click- engage with the screw rail I believe that this places constant extra stress on the plastic lips, or that Genie's use of an outsourced vendor to manufacture the part resulted in its premature failure. By the way, my Genie drive lead screw is a continuous single-piece type, so there was no extra stress caused by jumping from section to section of lead screw. So, I guess I'll return my broken part to Amazon for a refund and try a different compatible part; in addition, I'm downgrading my previous 5-star product review to a 1-star rating.

In less than a year, we were unable to succeed
3/5

In April of this year, I purchased and installed a Genie OEM garage door carriage. It broke down in February 2020, coming off the track and crashing down on my garage door. These aren't difficult to set up or maintain, and I believe the problem stems from the low-cost plastic used. I ordered a replacement and had it installed quickly, but I'm concerned that it will fail as well.

For a while, it seems to work - These have to be knockoffs from China
3/5

Beware! Final Final Update 5/2021br>I replaced my Genie with a Chamberlain belt drive, which works flawlessly, is quiet, and does not interfere with my door. In addition, it has a phone app that keeps me up to date on the status of the garage door while also giving me complete control. br>br>All of the genie's parts were thrown away. br>br>Final Update: br>br> 5/2021br>It's true that my garage door is quite heavy. For the stormy life here in Florida, it's a steel hurricane-rated door. It is not overly balanced, and it will remain in most travel positions. So either these parts are knock-offs or they're not. Genie needs to either get a handle on the people selling these counterfeit parts or come up with a replacement part that won't fail. Others will follow my lead and do the same thing I did. Bye-bye Genie, I've just placed an order for a new opener from a different manufacturer. br>br>2nd update: br>br> br>The replacement for the replacement only lasted a few months before breaking down. The thin plastic guide sheered off in the same way it failed. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> br>The replacement only lasted 6 months before the track guide's thin plastic blade snapped off (another failure mode), detaching from the track and allowing my door to slam shut. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Because I have an old car blocking access, replacing the entire unit is difficult, I'm ordering a few more replacements to tide me over, as well as lubing the screw, but I'm also starting the search for a new brand opener, most likely one with a chain. This part isn't built well enough, and I'm losing faith in Genie. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> br>It only lasted two years before it needed to be replaced. It begins to slip as the teeth become worn down. br>Ordered a new one and replaced the old one. br>I'm going to order a third one for next time, but once I get it, I'm going to try putting some chain lube on the screw drive to reduce abrasion from dust/grime, etc. br>======================================================= A metal screw track on the inside of this device can wear out and begin to slip over time. It's simple to replace because the old one will slide off the end of your track and the new one will slide on. The carriages are connected by cotter pins that can be easily removed by hand; all you have to do is unbolt the track from the wall just above the door and swing it aside to slide the carriages on and off. It'll take you no more than 10 minutes to complete the procedure. Prepare yourself with paper towels and automotive hand cleaner in case you get grease on your hands.

Genie manufactured this trolley, which was simple to assemble and operate
5/5

Genie manufactured this trolley, which was simple to assemble and operate. My previous version lasted nearly two decades. To keep your garage door opener in good working order, use Genie Screw Drive Lube (sold separately). There is a group of people who do not believe in the existence of God. On YouTube, you can find a homemade video to help you install the trolley. Actually, I probably didn't need to watch the video, but I did so to ensure that everything was working properly.

It's great to have the garage door opener back up and running
5/5

After 12 years of daily abuse, the trolley on my garage door had worn out, causing noisy slipping and the inability to open the door without human assistance, and I assumed I'd have to replace the entire door opener. Thanks to Amazon, I was able to locate this part. br>br>Installation was a little tricky because I couldn't remove the trolley without unbolting the wall screw rail. I needed to be able to lift the rail to remove the trolley because the garage door spring was in the way. The old trolley slid off and the new one slid on easily after that. For my Genie opener, this trolley appears to be OEM. I also adjusted the spring tension on the door itself while I was at it. The garage door had become extremely heavy as a result of the lost spring tension over the years, which is why I believe the old trolley finally failed. If you adjust the garage door tension spring yourself, be VERY CAREFUL. Make sure you have the right tools, and be ready for a big spring kick once you loosen the spring. If you require assistance, hire a professional. br>br>With the spring adjusted and the new trolley greased and in place, the garage door opener works like new again, and it's MUCH quieter than it was before the repair. I'm so relieved that these are for sale. It is very much worth it at the current price.
