Questions & Answers

Wrought iron can this be used on?

A spring can be used on iron, but it is designed to be used on As the spring comes with screws for wood, you would need to purchase self tapping screws of your choice. You should check the manufacturer's warranty for the iron fence if it is brand new to make sure they meet the warranty specifications.

The point of this object should not sag if you point it up with your hand. Does this product meet that requirement? Do you have any other use for it (besides what I planned)?

For the purpose it was intended for, the spring doesn't have to be as stiff as you might think. If you pointed it straight out from your hand, it would sag.

Does this only apply to flush mounts? In my case, I do not have flush posts and gates. ?

I do not think it works better unless it is also flush also how far is it from flush is important. Mine is not flush, it is about 1/16 away from flush. Posts are 1/2 " in diameter and are effective

What if I want to mount this on a chain link gate?

Do you think this would work on chain ink?

A flaw in the design exists
3/5

It's a great spring, but how come there is only one hole when you want to tighten it? Is that true? It should have holes all around the diameter of the top nut so it can be tightened. It's hard to put tension on the spring, remove the tensioning tool, and put in the insert post if there is only one hole. I used brute strength to twist the spring and insert post. I don't know how this ended up on the market this way. This is a dangerous scenario for Amazon because they must ensure that their customers do not receive products engineered by 7 year olds.

It does the job, but needs to be modified
4/5

This may occur in certain circumstances. Here are some good things to start with. As described, the product completes the task at hand. It was used to build a wooden deck gate that measures *3' tall and 5' wide and is moderately heavy. With this device, our dogs will no longer be able to escape so often (because it holds the gate closed perfectly!). In the past, the gate would bounce open after it removed the latch, allowing the dogs to roam in the neighborhood. There is a negative side to this I fastened the device to a 4x4 post that is mounted to the gate it took me no time at all There is only a 1 inch opening in the gate since it has a 2x4 frame. To attach to, the device must be mounted on a 75" surface. It was a bit difficult to screw the device in with the screws angled to the direction the device was facing, but this wasn't an issue. I liked how it worked. A flaw in the spring holding key was that it did not work well. In spite of putting the key into the key hole in the proper direction, the key would not stay in the keyhole long enough to hold the spring tension. As the gate closed, it would pry itself out a little at a time until it was free. As a result, the key tended to be pulled out with ease since it lay over the edge of the mounting bracket. For the problem to be solved, I ground down the fat end of the tongs (the one that SHOULD go in As I put a key in backwards, I ground it down to a length to create a metal mounting surface that would be completely touching. ensured that the key would stay in place and fixed the issue in full. As far as the adjustment goes, it goes relatively smoothly, and as far as customizing my gate goes, the black color coordinates with the.

The installation process is easy You can pass city inspection with this
4/5

As a requirement of our city, we require that gates outside a swimming pool be self-closing Close the window. Having automatic latches 54 inches up, combined with this measure provides you with the necessary documentation to pass You will need padlocks on your gates, though, if you are truly serious. The last thing you want is for a kid to get into your pool and drown. My gates are secured with padlocks so I can't live with that kind of situation. Having padlocked gates is also an advantage in that you become a less attractive target for burglars. Basically, this spring thing closes your gate on a more or less regular basis. It is likely you will have to adjust it from time to time so you will have to hold onto the lever.

This is decent
3/5

As far as my gate was concerned, it didn't lend itself well to this style of spring, but I was able to add some blocks of 2x4 to key areas in order to get it set up As with any spring-based product, you need to keep in mind that it is influenced significantly by the weather outside (which is not too surprising, after all it is spring). On cooler days the spring will be under greater tension, whereas on warmer days it will be under This product is still able to do most of what I wanted, but I purchased it to have peace of mind I still have to ensure that the gate is closed when letting the dog into the yard due to weather fluctuations. Additionally, the tension retaining dowel (of which two are included) has popped out of the housing randomly at least one time, so I believe weather fluctuations are behind the problem. With that being said, I feel like my particular problem has been 60 percent fixed, so I give this product three out of five stars.

It works well, but be careful when installing it
4/5

However, the pins are made of aluminum, so the product was somewhat difficult to install. During the process of tightening the spring, one of them broke. There was a spare on set, which was lucky. For it to be more stable, the pins should just like the rest of the structure be made of steel. Please take caution not to overtorque It is important to remember that the door spring tightens as the door opens. Torque on the spring does not need to be high in order to have a lot of torque when it is After my mistake, I learned from it and now I'm all right.

The news is not so good
3/5

While I had no problem assembling the product, the pin used to adjust tension doesn't stay in place. Instead, it moves in and out freely and is supposed to be tight. If you release the tension from the tensioning bar when you insert the pin, the pin will fly out in random directions at high speed. At one point, a part of it almost smacked me in the face. I am looking for something that will hold this quickly, I do not know if there is anything that will work outside, superglue will not work as it isn't durable in the elements, so it's In the meanwhile, I need to fix a spring on my gate until I can get it working again. We tried plumber's tape, but it only makes the pin more slippery and it shoots out The spring is solid, and it is looking and feeling like it will hold the pin if I can get it It is really easy to install, but like others have stated, it requires four wood screws to hold it down. Having used them on my old gate, they work just fine, so they shouldn't cause any problems for most others. A screwdriver or drill/driver with an electric motor can be used to install the springs in a matter of seconds. While doing it by hand, it will probably take a bit longer but you don't have to worry about it being difficult. Just remember that the single pin side goes down, and that the tension.

Keeping your door shut is easy with this device
5/5

I have nbsp There is a big gate that is made of steel, and it is The pool guy, while going through the gate, leaves it wide open most of the time. There had to be a mechanism to shut the gate automatically. Since the gate is heavy, I had to add a second spring when it wouldn't close with just Despite having done it twice before, I took a little longer to install the second spring, but since I knew what I was doing, it was completed in about 15 minutes. To adjust the pin, I rotated the knob with a screwdriver. I recommend this course to anyone. It was not very difficult.

There was a collapse of both top and bottom pins
3/5

pins for the bottom were installed during the manufacturing process. In order to install the top pin, the spring tension must have been set prior to product installation by the end user. Afterward, I placed the pin in the top of the tension spring. It had taken two days for both pins to fall out By the time my landscaper had closed the gate, it had been opened. My super glue has stuck both in place, so hopefully it will stay in place. In light of the fact that it was installed by the maker, I see no reason for the bottom pin falling out. It was a disappointment!.
