As far as my 2010 Avenger is concerned, it worked perfectly. On my 2015 Cadillac CTS however, I had to put down 2x6 pieces of wood in front of the ramps. This helped lift it high enough to avoid rubbing.
Depending on what you're doing, it's kind of up to you. When you change the oil on your vehicle, you don't have to level it perfectly. The driveway I have for my car isn't level, so I put the ramps at the low end of it and drive up them. gives me a pretty good level!
