We started to hear a freight train rumbling through the house when our washer started making noise. The problem was a bad bearing, so I ordered new bearings as well as a new shaft seal and a As I disassembled the washer, I found that the surface that the seal rides on was severely corroded and unlikely to seal correctly, so this is a quality replacement for the original factory spider. Sadly, LG's engineering was either lacking or perhaps designed to fail. The aluminum is corroded when exposed to soap and water (I painted the aluminum with high quality paint), and the bolts that secure this spider to the washer drum were very corroded as well. I was able to unscrew 3 of the bolts the third just spun. After several hours of frustration, I managed to remove the final bolt. As a result, LG captured the nuts in a small piece of plastic inside the tumbler piece of the drum, preventing them from coming out. My final attempt was to remove the tumbler pieces after cutting off the last two bolts. My goal was to never allow the nuts to spin again, so I welded them to the drawplate. I would recommend you get replacement bolts at the same time, it was a significant amount of work to remove the old bearings and bolts, but the complete bottom half assembly looked pretty good.

This is much better than OEMs and other guessed It is an all day and then some project if you have to replace these. They are made of aluminum alloy just like the originals. In light of what bleach can do to aluminum, I am puzzled by this. The washers in these units are not suitable for using bleach. If I had to pay four times as much for stainless steel or another alloy that is not bleach-sensitive, I would opt for it. I had a problem with two out of three arms of my Spyder, and the inner SS drum rubbed against On careful examination, it was discovered that the outer drum was worn through. JB Weld was used to patch that rather than replace There is no doubt about planned obsolescence. I get as much use out of our products as I can, so I don't mind the landfills. There are limited skills required to handle these types of repairs, and it simply is not economically feasible to hire professionals.

In order to fix the LG WM2801 washer, I would have to pay over $1000 to fix the spider, according to an appliance repair technician. In my attempt to fix the problem myself, I purchased this part on Amazon while tearing apart my computer. After analyzing the old part, it turned out to be fine, but seeing that I went to so much trouble to inspect it, I decided to replace it. I replaced this with an OEM component, which fit well and looks just the same as the original. The part did not fix my problem, but it seems to be a good replacement.

My favorite part was that it was a lot cheaper than going straight to LG for the exact same part! I also purchased the bearing gasket kit and new struts since I was working all the way down in there! Even though it's over 15 years old, it runs just as well as when it was brand-new!.

For the bolts to come off easily, you must heat them up with a propane torch for at least 2 minutes to release Loctite. If the lubricant is not released, the nuts will spin, which may make the swap VERY hard. The first two nuts came out very easily when I used an impact cordless with 10mm socket and spun them. Once I figured out the heat trick, the rest came out with no problem. In case your nuts spin, keep using heat, but pry them up off the washer with the ratchet or impact when you drive them. It's inevitable that they will come loose at some point. Reassemble the lifter if the nuts spin, and use some epoxy to cement them back into the plastic. In addition, I purchased replacement bearings, seals, and O-rings The entire repair costs around $125 and shouldn't take longer than 4 hours (maybe).
