You can grab it right out of your pack using your glove. It deploys using the ol' wiggle and pull method in a matter of seconds, locking in place with ease. In spite of being relatively light, it is very strong. It's great how the tip of the pole is larger than the rest of the pole to dig down to the surface while probing the depth of the snow. So far, there have been no signs of wear this season while snow evaluating the snow.
This item was exactly as described, heavy duty and extremely convenient.
Small and light, it fits in my small backpack. It can be deployed quickly.
It has never been used as a probe, so hopefully I won't need it. I still think it's nice!.
I will see if the numbers wear off over time with use, as the probe is light and easy to expand.
