I like how the tail curls when I'm going down a steep hill; it gives me a sense of confidence and control. It's directional, which made me nervous about riding out the switch at times, but it's actually quite simple and natural. This is my third t rice board, with the Speedodeeps being the most recent. I ride in an area with a lot of powder and very little ice, and I enjoy backcountry, tree runs, and groomer cruising. There will be no playing in the park. The packaging, on the other hand, was unable to contain this board, which broke at both ends of the box and emerged from the plastic. Fortunately, there was no damage.
The board is fantastic, and it lives up to the hype. Unfortunately, it had several cosmetic flaws when it arrived. Several areas on the top edges were dented, chipped, and scratched, with plexi strings hanging off.
Excellent float in powder with a smooth transition back to chunder or hardpack. For hardpack carving, I prefer it to my Burton Fish.
Stable to the extreme.
It was my first directional board, and it did not let me down. Since 2014, I've been riding a 153" rossignol retox, which is a great all-around bike. With a lot of flex, it's a mountain board. The orca, on the other hand, is a totally different creature. The two days I had the opportunity to ride this board were both late in the season, so it was basically a sheet of ice with a groom pattern. During those conditions, this board held up remarkably well. This board gripped the ice like a samurai sword and never let go, no matter how quickly I decided to move. Despite pushing my limits and abusing a variety of illicit substances, I didn't eat $hit all day. SNOWBOARDING AT IT'S BEST- It does, however, take some time to adjust. When I got off a chairlift, that was the only time I ate it. The reason for this is that the front end of the board is so long that controlling the snowboard without my back foot strapped in is a little more difficult. Perhaps a stomp pad would help, and maybe I should have gotten the board 3" shorter than usual, as suggested. In any case, I'm looking forward to putting this board through its paces in some deep powder and putting it to its full potential.
