After getting in a shower, it will immediately loosen up to the point of rising up from water getting in around the waste. When dry, it should still feel tight. If you go up a size, it would rise up from water getting in around the waste. You'll notice that it loosens up after a while. If you're smaller than I am, you may want to get the small size because you want the waste to fit tightly. It fits very tight around my chest and I almost sold it to a petite woman in my water aerobics class because it is so pretty, but I found it to be very warm! Sometimes it is difficult for me to start the zipper myself, and it's a tight squeeze when the zipper is dry. The 'L' is perfect when wet. The tops that I wear usually fit me. I’m 5’7", 150 pounds, and usually wear a size 10 or large. Due to the confusing information about Chinese and US sizes, it was difficult to determine whether a shirt would fit. them thinking they were going to be converting the smaller Chinese sizes to US sizes, but that turned out not to be the case. In the end, I finally had to go down a size to make it fit better. The jacket felt comfortable after I had it fitted to my size, and the zipper did not cause any irritation as I wore it all the way. I did find that when swimming, the vest did serve its purpose to add buoyancy, however, I found that the bottom would rise up and bunch, and I would have to stop between laps to lower it. For short term use and at a minimal cost, it's good. I used it to train and compete in my first triathlon, and am satisfied with it in that context, but if I would needs something for regular use I may look into a one-piece wet suit.
