Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use 36 inch long fins for freediving?

The sides of the bag and the main compartments are open all the way around. I don't know the bag's dimensions, but the pockets on the side are open the entire length. It may help to know that.

The zippers on this back can be locked with a traditional luggage lock, but could you do it all or some of them?

A luggage lock can be used to lock all the bigger pockets since the zippers are doubled. One zipper appears to be all there is on the smaller pockets. Additionally, zipper pulls with the "Mares" logo decorate them they are surprisingly easy to pull and easy to handle and are a nice touch. There is probably a little greater room for the ring on the end of the zipper than in the middle, so the lock would have to be one of the smaller gauges instead of the fatter ones.

Can you tell me the weight of this bag (empty)?

During a digital weigh-in, I tipped the scales at 11lbs. The bag and equipment come in at 69 pounds when fully loaded, 2 full setups minus weights. The regulations and computers I carry in my carry on are all in my bag.

Because it is on wheels, I can't imagine that a captain would let you bring it on board. For boat usage, you should get a web bag. One that fits into this pack is what I use.

This bag has been in my possession for a little over three years now
5/5

Despite only going on three trips with it, it has proven to be great for hauling my gear. The first time I checked the luggage, I thought the Delta luggage monkeys had abused the bag. But when I went home, I found that the "good" wheels rubber tire was too cracked to withstand being dropped. I contacted Mares and tried to find out In a few hundred yards, the wheels have only rolled a few hundred miles. Or I could order new wheels for free. Now that the warranty period has expired, they may be able to sell me some replacements. Due to the blatant disregard of my emails, I eventually bought some additional 90mm wheels to see if they would The second part of my complaint is this. It is difficult to replace their wheels since they make them hard to replace. My hopes were that I could access the axle through the zippered liner on the interior, but I discovered that the axles are riveted at their end, so I have to remove the entire corner protector to get at them. Also, the axle side that needs to be drilled out is covered by the corner protector. Therefore, I will either have to attempt to drill through the domed side without the bit slipping or drill an access hole through the corner protector so I can allow access to drill through Depending on how irritated I become during the procedure, grinding may be the third option. My expectation was better customer service, or any service at all, for a bag in this price range. Before I give any more of my money to Mares, I will definitely examine other gear bags. I hope my wife gets certified soon.

Two entire sets of gear fit into a HUGE bag that falls within the airlines' maximum size
5/5

I packed the gear for a Florida diving trip. No matter how hard the airline attempted to break it, the case held up well. With its easy rolling characteristics and lots of pockets, it can hold a lot, although I would probably leave my regulator in my carry-on just in Obviously, it's the fact that it holds plenty of stuff and is still within the airline's maximum size, so they won't charge you extra for oversized bags. Make sure you don't put in too much stuff, as it will make your backpack too heavy When your bag is this big, it's just too easy to lose it.

This is a great travel companion
3/5

The Mares bag is the third I have purchased from Mares in the last two Whenever we travel, we bring all of our own dive gear, and it fits not only the gear, but also our clothes. I now have a bag for everyone in my family. Our bag has outside pockets for fins, we pack wetsuits, boots, BCs, and regulators in it, and I wrap our clothes around the masks and regulators for additional protection on the outside.

My initial reaction to the bag was to love it for the first five days
5/5

Within the first five days of owning this bag, I fell in love with The room was large and everything fit well. After that, one of the zippers on the fin pocket popped open for no apparent reason. My zipper just started opening all the time below the zipper! We were very disappointed with this product, as we didn't expect the zippers to be that cheap on such a high-priced item of dive gear. It wouldn't last a few hours in the back of my SUV, so I couldn't imagine taking it on an airplane! The zippers were cheap, so I gave it two stars!.

For divers who travel the world, this travel bag is perfect
4/5

A gear bag like this is ideal for carrying two sets of equipment. A great place for a couple vacationing together on a dive trip. The bag was used to carry equipment to Grand Cayman. Fins fit in the outside pockets, 2 wetsuits were in the inner pockets, 2 BC's, 2 masks, 2 regulators, plus various other small pieces of equipment fit in the gear bag very well. Only thing to keep in mind is to weigh your bag before you get to the airport so that you don't have to pay an overweight fee since it While I have not used it as a single diver yet, it should be able to fit all of my scuba gear for a dive trip with the girls as well as the clothes I plan to wear.

My favorite bag is this one
3/5

My favorite bag is this one. Only thing that would make it better would be to have four wheels instead of two. A full wetsuit, 2 pairs of fins, 1 BC, 1 mask, a camera, and 1 small camera are all I brought. An accessory pack for diving that includes a suit, two hangers, and other small items.
