The kids wore these to the beach all day. I bought two of them and they wore them all day. In the course of their activities, they protected their skin accordingly. Exactly the right amount of material is used. It wasn't too big of a deal that the sleeves were longer as they were. I used it on my 11-year-old son who has long arms, and it worked well. Because the 6 yo weren't hanging, but rather were sitting down, the 6 yo didn't even notice it. Despite being 11 years old, he is thin and small, which made him fit in a Sze 12 Med. Neither 6 yo nor 8 xs is too big for him, so he wore an 8 xs. I found them both to be a great match. Additionally, I liked the fact that the colors are bright, which I find useful for kids to be easily seen when they are.

It runs small. It is a great shirt. The brand I bought and another brand I bought on Amazon both cater to 3 year-olds. One of the other brands is definitely bigger, but this one runs smaller. I bought the XS 6T for a just turned three year old, and I'm glad I didn't go Rashes guards are supposed to fit snugly, but if they were any smaller, they'd be nearly impossible to put on and take off.
