I ordered this helmet along with a few other brands for comparison. Other than that, one of the helmets was certified and one wasn't (note that this particular helmet doesn't have the foam insert so it doesn't have certification). The foam insert on the cushion is excellent, but, because the cushion is not certified, it is made to absorb low impact hits. This is what I knew when I purchased it, so I knew exactly what it was. Since I am using this longboard for standard skateboarding, I do not need anything else. The choice of whether or not you want a certified helmet really depends on what the helmet will be used for and your personal preferences. From the moment I put this helmet on, I knew that it was going to be the one I kept from the three I had ordered. My head fits like a perfect sized glove in it. There is nothing more comfortable than a helmet that sits low on your head, unlike many that sit high. So you don't look like a mushroom head, and the makeup looks great on you. My helmet is amazing! I am so happy with it! Despite not being safety certified, it still offers substantial protection. Lightweight. The profile is noticeably thinner, yet not as bulky. A helmet with a strap and buckle of this quality can be called a high-end helmet. Since my head is on the large side, I purchased the Large size, which fits perfectly and is not too tight. In the middle there are thinner velcro-adjustable pads with cut-outs which are glued down. The top has a stiff layer of foam, while the back, front and sides are thinner, glued down foam. In fact, I added a thin rear pad from an old helmet to make things a tad more snug. The helmet is exactly what I wanted, I am really impressed with how well it fits and looks. My helmet has proven to be as effective at protecting my head as any "certified" helmet I've ever owned, and I feel just as safe using it. I've crashed a few times now and this helmet has done an excellent job.

My other helmets just didn't seem to be quite as secure, so I ended up purchasing this helmet again, and I am not disappointed at all. I use it for biking, and many other helmets only support the top of the head, with no side protection, so I liked this one. There's no problem with this at all at tec. I am not concerned that my noggin may fall off if I am in an unfortunate accident since it appears to be supported and safe from all angles. A real skater would not be able to trust the padding inside the skate. Helmets are not generally liked by kids, but they do wear them You can make this work for your kid if he or she skates or scooters only occasionally.
