The chain holder tool is used to keep a bike chain away from the frame while cleaning, transporting, lubing, and storing it. Most cyclists use it when their bike is on a bicycle repair stand.

It's simple to use: just take off the back wheel and insert the Chain Keeper into the wheel dropout above the rear derailleur. This chain keeper's design allows the bike to be shifted, and it works with open dropout and thru-axle frames up to 12mm (just use your own thru-axle with the black wheel).

It keeps the chain taut and out of the way of the frame and paintwork. When transporting or cleaning your chain, this is used to keep it from becoming tangled. It'll work great with your chain cleaner or chain degreaser scrubber.

Aluminum and carbon frames are suitable for MTB and road bikes.

Chemical and oil resistant: great for all types of bikes, chain cleaners, degreasers, and dry cleaning.

Is the thread on my Trek Fuel's fixed derailleur nut the same as that of a quick release skewer?

That's what I think. The hub is larger and should fit in the same bracket as yours; the skewer will simply tighten it.

Is it possible to use this on a bike that has a quick release system?

Yes, I've tried it with both quick release and non-quick release hubs. It shouldn't make a difference because it's a quick release.

On a 12 mm through axle, how would you use it? Is it possible to remove the black cap and use the dummy wheel instead?

Remove the entire wheel from the bike; the chain keeper has a quick release of its own. Simply place the chain on the chain keeper's roller wheel after inserting it into the drop out on the drive side of the bike and tightening it as you would any other quick release.

Is it compatible with a tru axel of 12mm?

I don't think there's any reason why it shouldn't be done.

What I was looking for

I came across a Facebook advertisement for a competitor's product that looked great until I saw the price. So I went to Amazon and searched for "similar products," and this came up. After doing the standard review probing and buyer images, I decided to go ahead and make the purchase. Why not, at this price? Anyway, it arrived today, and I have to say, it's fantastic. Easy to set up, safe, and a fraction of the price of the other option I was considering. I'll be a satisfied customer and order another if I get 6 months out of it for the price. But, to be honest, I don't see why I'd have to replace it unless it snaps, which I don't think will happen. br>br>If you're reading this, I strongly advise you to purchase it. Works with through-the-wall either an axle or a dropout Because my bike's axle is 12mm through, all I had to do was remove the plastic wheel and replace it on the axle

So I'm not sure how well it works in a dropout with the rest of it. br>br>It works perfectly. As you shift the derailleur, the chain glides across the wheel, and the wheel floats. It's ideal for cleaning the chain and washing the bike while the wheels are removed, allowing easier access to all parts.

Simple to use

When you don't have the back wheel installed, this is a great way to keep the chain tensioned. I mostly use it during thorough bike washes to degrease and lubricate the rear wheel and brakes without contaminating them. I don't use spray lubricant very often, but now that I have this and don't have to worry about overspray, I think I will. It fits nicely into my rear wheel quick release dropout; unfortunately, all of my bikes are slightly different sizes, so I have to adjust every time; however, this is a minor issue that is not the device's fault.

It's simple to use and transport, and it can be used with QR or thru axles. This was purchased so that I could load my bicycles into the trunk of my car without having to remove the seats. It fulfills my requirements perfectly.

I had no idea such a thing existed until a few weeks ago, and I'm glad I discovered it. This one appealed to me because it appeared to function similarly to a standard gear cassette, in that you can change gears and it will move when necessary. That may or may not be required, but it appears to be a good idea; however, not all of them do so. br>br>Without the rear wheel in place, I would have had a lot of trouble cleaning and messing around. It's difficult to find a more trouble-free bike tool if you do any kind of bike work at all.

I've been considering getting a chain keeper for a while now because I ride and maintain several bikes. When I got to my back wheel and had to remove it, it was always a pain. As I worked on my cassette or derailler, I tried a variety of methods to clear the chain. Finally, I gave in and purchased a chain keeper. Sportixx was my first choice, and I'm glad I went with them. It does exactly what it should, is easy to use, and is well-made of high-quality materials. Even better, it arrived only a few days after I placed my order on Amazon. I use it to clean my road bike chain and find it to be extremely useful

Taking the tension off the cassette and rear derailleur slackens the chain, allowing the grit to be rinsed and chain oil (I use Rock and Roll Gold - see below) to be applied more effectively. to better penetrate the rollers (try it, you'll like it). The chain shifts smoothly and quietly. Using a chain keeper is extremely beneficial in this process.

If the wheel is removed while in the smallest cog, it will not function

So it looks nice, but it's not quite right in practice, because when you remove the rear wheel while in the smallest cog, the chain and derailleur do not align with the furthest position that the guide can move towards the frame. Only remove the wheel in the 12-volt system to use this chain keeper. Depending on your setup, 14 sprocket may be necessary.
