Velcro keeps it all together.
Because the material is stretchy, I was able to stretch it to fit my bike.
Selected User Reviews For RaceFace Chain Stay Pad: Regular, Black
This was purchased to replace a worn out chainstay guard, and it exceeded my expectations for the price. Raceface products are always impressive, and this chainstay guard is no exception. It fits my hardtail Salsa Timberjack perfectly.
I hate to say it, but that snazzy new frame is going to get nicked and chipped at some point, and the chainstay will be the first place you notice it! Yes, your chain will slap against the chainstay, and aside from leaving grease behind, it will almost certainly leave scratches or worse. A chromed stay was commonly used to protect a steel frame in the past, but what about painted aluminum? Carbon? There will be no such luck. This pad is very simple, consisting of a thin layer of what feels like neoprene with long strips of velcro to secure it in place; it doesn't have to be fancy, it just has to work; as well as it. It's not the flashiest or most glamorous upgrade you'll make to your bike, but it'll be the one you won't have to think about, and you'll be glad you have it mile after mile. Get it now.
Because the chain stays on most steel bikes are narrower than those on carbon or aluminum bikes, I was concerned about fit, but this protector fit perfectly. I was able to create a nice tight wrap that stayed put. It also appears to be extremely attractive. It's well worth the money and offers excellent protection, as well as looking better and being much easier to install than an old tube or mastic tape.
- There will be no more slapping of chains!

br> br>br>Pros: Good price (I paid $13 USD)br>br>Cons:
- I'm not sure how long it'll last; hopefully the velcro will hold up after a year, but if not, I'll just add some zip ties.
- Because it appears to be made of a spongey material, it may saturate oil or mud.
- The cost changes over time. When I first saw it, I thought it was $29 USD. I put it aside and bought it when the price dropped to $13 a few weeks later. It costs $20 at the moment. br>br>Overall, it appears to be a good buy if purchased at a low price.
The padding on the chainstays is a little less than I expected. It didn't fit my brand new mountain bike, so I had to cut a couple of holes in it. The gear cable ran along the chain stay, so it didn't fit. Aside from that, it's adequate.
Against chain slap, it appears to be effective. With the Raceface logo stamped across the entire pad, he's certainly a handsome young man. Install the Velcro so that it faces outwards, and the. It's easier to install and have all the Velcro smooth if you turn it around so the Velcro faces the tire.
It's just a piece of neoprene with Velcro on it. I'm not sure if it's better than others selling for a few dollars less, but the RaceFace logo looks nice, and the oversized version is perfect for mountain bikes.
I couldn't get it to wrap around my chainstay. My bike is a carbon fiber Hardtail, so it doesn't have the beefy lines that some bikes do. If it does fit, however, it is of good quality!.
