There is no brake attached to the ball and it does not extend to the ball. The brake is simply mounted on the trailer's tongue. The ball size will depend on how big the ball is on the trailer's tongue.

purchased this unit to replace the old unit on my boat trailer that has been in use for 30 years. After welding it in, it is amazing how much better it is than before.
