It would be best to fill with water and freeze it, as both of the below guys have said. A hot day will cause it to thaw and be nice and cold within a few minutes.

It's not pre-assembled, unlike many others. One thing I forgot to mention in my original review was that the black areas of the bottle (not the cap) are made from a different material than the silver areas. This bottle has a silver and black part. Plastic is at the base and rubber on the outside. These parts prevent the bottle from sliding off your bike accidentally.
