It's a pad that looks like it belongs on a farm. It's a substantial pad. Triathlons will benefit from it.
If anything, the medium is a smidgeon too big for me, but I don't think there's anything better. (I usually wear a 33, but occasionally a 32.)
I'm sorry, Mark, but I'm unable to make a comparison between the shorts and padding separation. br>However, the shorts with padding when worn together are fantastic. When I'm done riding, I turn them inside out to dry them quickly. After that, toss it in the wash basket. When ridding, I have yet to see the padding detach or move. (FYI)
I have a 33" waist and the large worked well for me. For a 30-year-old woman, a medium might be a good fit. 31".

Last year, I ordered a pair of shorts that I really liked. Unless I was doing laundry, I wore them every time I rode. So, a few weeks ago, I ordered a second pair so that I could always wear clean shoes. Unfortunately, the new pair (shown on the left) has seat padding that extends too far up the back of the pants. The difference between this year's model (on the right) and last year's model (on the left) is a full two inches. This indicates that the padding for the sit bones isn't in the proper location. Unless you wear the pants all the way down your backside, in which case they should be returned for a refund.
I'm wearing a base layer under these shorts and they don't feel constricting, so I'll be able to wear them all year. The pad is of sufficient quality for me to ride comfortably all day. Because it has a drawstring waist, I was able to order an xxl for a 40" waist.

" " Sure, the price point for these shorts is appealing, but if you're going to market and sell a product, quality is essential. One ride and the pocket stitching unravels? Easy two- There are no excuses with an hour ride, a new washing machine, and no falls or rubbing. I would never, ever, ever recommend these shorts to anyone I cared about.
They appear to be regular shorts with padding for bike rides, which makes me happy. These shorts are also extremely comfortable for casual riders. I'm a 33" and the Large fits me just right. It's not baggy, but it's not tight either. The pockets are fantastic, and the zippers are extremely durable. For the price, this is an excellent purchase!.

This is exactly what I was looking for in a pair of lightweight mountain bike shorts. I liked the material, which is very durable, and the quality was surprisingly good for the price. For those bumpy rides, the extra padding is a welcome addition. The pockets with zippers are fantastic! I have no problem tossing my phone, keys, and a portable pump.
