I purchased these to use as ice fishing anchors, and they are very sharp and work well. When the wind picks up, I can easily tie down my shelter or simply anchor my chairs so I don't have to chase them down. However, I do not believe they are worth the money when compared to the alternative; instead, I now bring a small drill with a bit that matches the diameter of the inexpensive anchors and simply pre-drill. Without a hitch, drill the holes and then screw in the anchors. They've never pulled away from me before. It's an additional step, but I don't think it's worth it. Having said that, the Black Diamond Ice screws did not disappoint me in the least.
The difference without the knob isn't noticeable to me. The fact that there is only one clipping point is my biggest gripe. To get started or if you need to fill-in-the-blanks, These are great for saving money in your ice chest.
These are well-made and perform admirably.
These screws are great for holding down my ice fishing shanty because they are quick and easy to screw into the ice. Excellent product.
When I go ice diving, I use the ice screws as anchors for my safety lines. SCUBA. They are simple to install and maintain.
Instead, opt for the express or helix. These screws take significantly longer to install than either of those, so the helix or express are well worth the extra money.
