Even though it is not intended for that purpose, I would not hesitate in using it for backing up solo top roping.
This would make a good ascender for setting up two fixed lines and doing top rope solo laps by yourself. But there is a disclaimer that puts this in the category of not intended for top rope solo use. You will never have to worry about decking again if you pair it with a microtraxion.
It is so much safer and more comfortable to rappel with this. It is a pleasure to work with you.
This is what I use for solo TRs. It only has one con It makes a noticeable amount of drag when climbing because it has springs, but just knowing that it is ready to go makes me feel better.
There is nothing better than this shunt and works so much better than a Prusik knot, especially when rapels are involved and your rope gets wet, as well as when Sandy is around.
It works like a champ. Soloing with it on a top rope is my favorite activity. The person is reliable and strong. I have the opportunity to focus more on climbing than on gear.
In comparison with the older models, it is harder to slide.
