Selected User Reviews For UCO Collapsible Cup for Hiking, Backpacking, and Camping
This cup is ideal for camping or backpacking. It's small and light, and it collapses to a size that's easy to store or clip to your bag. It also has measurements marked on the inside. It appears to be made of tough materials that can withstand rough treatment. br>br>The only thing I'd warn against is that the silicon material that makes up the cup's collapsible portion seems to hold on to the smells and flavors of whatever you put in it previously. I've washed it with hot water and dish soap several times, but it still smells like coffee or the grape electrolyte drink I've been drinking from it on hikes.
I have the Retro Sunrise (yellow/orange) version of this cup. I bought it to use as a water measuring cup for my backpacking meals. The markings are nearly impossible to read. Despite the fact that I know where they are, I can barely see them and must hunt for them. This renders it useless for my intended use (I had to use a marker to mark the inside). br>br>However, the cup is comfortable to hold, the flat edges make it easy to fill from the pot, the rounded corners poured well, and it handled the hot water well. br>br>I emailed their support about a week ago to see if other color combinations are easier to read and have received no response. As a result, when compared to other backpacking gear manufacturers I've dealt with (such as MSR, who were extremely helpful), this is a point against them as well.
I really wanted to like this tiny cup, but at $9, I had high expectations.
- 2 stars because the measurements are borderline unreadable, which is why I bought them in the first place (to measure hot water for dehydrated meals). To save them, I'm going to have to cut them deeper.
- 1 star because it's difficult to collapse, and the ridges aren't as noticeable in person. In addition, the weights and measures are off by about an ounce. I poured 12 ounces of water into a measuring cup from two different measuring cups, and it nearly overflowed. According to the markings, the cup should hold around 13 oz. br>However, they get two stars because they are very attractive and are ideal for those who only require an expensive cup.
AS SOME REVIEWS HAVE STATED, IT IS NOT DIFFICULT TO COLLAPSE. READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION. I have several of these cups, and they are used by my entire family when we go camping. We have a variety of UCO products and are pleased with their overall quality. br>br>In terms of the cup collapsing, I've read a few reviews that say it's difficult to collapse. This, I believe, stems from some misunderstanding. Some reviewers claim they are attempting to collapse the cup along the consecutive lines on the silicon portion of the cup, but this is not the case. Instead, you simply push up from the bottom of the cup, and the entire silicon section folds in at the same time. It couldn't be simpler or more effective.
I really like how the inside of the cup has measurement markings. It folds up nicely and fits neatly into the mess kit. Tea bags and other travel essentials are easy to pack in the mess kit! br>br>I'd recommend getting the whole package with the mess kit if you can. The spork has been upgraded and is the same color and size as the original.
This cup was purchased to be used on a three-tiered cake. a one-day backpacking trip I bought it in the hopes that it would fit inside the small mess kit I was using, and it did just that. I use the Vinqliq Camping Campfire Cookware Mess Kit, which I bought on Amazon. The cup fit perfectly inside the sauce pan, leaving enough room for the stove burner, utensils, wood stirrer, and cleaning pad that came with the set. I used the cup for coffee, hot chocolate, and water, and neither the coffee nor the hot chocolate left an aftertaste or odor in the cup. That was mentioned by other reviewers as a problem. That was not the case. Maybe they just need to do a better job of cleaning their cup. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase. It fits perfectly in my UCO camping mess kit and is a good, sturdy little cup for camping. I only wish it folded down a little more so I could fit the spork and cup inside the mess kit, as I don't have the tether that keeps the spork attached to the outside of the kit. Even if I had the tether, I'd prefer to keep the spork and cup in the kit for sanitary reasons. The cup does not fold down easily; you must use your small muscles to do so, which I believe is a good thing because it means the cup will not collapse easily while in use. As a result, it's particularly beneficial for children, as they don't need to be extra-responsible. When working with them, be cautious.
There are measure lines, which are useful for measuring water for dehydrated foods, but they can be difficult to see. I also have the Sea to Summit collapsible mugs, which are fantastic, but I'm always afraid of crushing them while they're full of hot coffee. The rigid-part This mug's uniqueness provides me with some comfort. If the coffee is too hot to hold, having a handle is also useful.
