I bought it in case of an emergency. It's exactly like the mess kit(s) I used in the late 1960s, except it's clean and unblemished. It's great for cooking and eating, and I'm sure you'll come up with other ideas. It will work on propane stoves, sterno stoves, esbit stoves, and most likely a campfire. I had an old one in the garage that I kept with my emergency supplies, but it was starting to fall apart - I spent some time cleaning up that one, but I decided the family needed another. This one was inexpensive. br>The lower half has a long handle, while the upper half is smaller and divided into two containers - one for each container. It's great for cooking and eating - It's simple to clean (a "scrubby" pad is a nice addition to the set). Why re- I learned how to use it in the Army many years ago, and I've demonstrated it to my son, who is pleased with the results. Stainless steel, not the flimsy aluminum found in so many of the new "Glamping" (glamour camping) kits. It's something I'd strongly suggest - I don't go camping anymore, so it's for EMERGENCY use, and my old one is over 60 years old. and continues to pay its way. You can also keep your utensils, straws, and other small items inside.
If you're trying to stay away from "made in China" items, this is for you. That's best of luck. While there are many low-quality products made in China, I've discovered that there are also many high-quality products made in China. "Made in China" isn't always synonymous with low-cost junk. This product is manufactured in China. It appears to be a durable piece of equipment. The original mess kit is constructed of heavy-gauge aluminum. Stainless steel was used for this one. It's also not made of cheap, junky stainless steel with a thin wall. It's a little sturdier than usual. It will, of course, bend if you press it hard enough. However, you will have to exert considerable effort. br>This is an excellent camping item. It's easy to cook with because of the long handle, and it's a good size for an adult meal. I would choose this over the aluminum one for around $15 dollars and based on how well it is made! Two of them were purchased!.
This is something we used recently while camping out of state. To speed up the heating process, I used the plate as a lid. It really works. We did get a little blackened from the fire, but we washed it off and wrapped it in a towel to pack it. It comes in a small package and can fit a small sponge inside. Silverware that can be broken into two pieces. This weekend, I plan to use it again. We'll be carrying it in our pack while hiking, so the fact that it's so light is a bonus.
It works well for me.
I bought it because it was small and thin, and it was made in China, and I was hoping to save a few dollars, but I'll have to find it somewhere else from a real maker.
