Questions & Answers

Is there a hole in the bottom of this smelting pot that allows the lead to be poured directly into a bullet mold, or do you have to scoop and pour the lead into a mold?

This melting pot features a drop spout at the bottom that allows molten lead to be dispensed directly into the cavity mold. Allow this melting pot to fully heat up in order to clear any cold lead from the spout, which could prevent it from properly pouring. The time it takes to heat up is usually between 15 and 20 minutes. (with the lead loaded to the brim)

What is the width of the top?

Choose the 20-pound pot instead. You'll need the larger capacity if you're going to do a lot of casting.

Hello, does this item come with a warranty?

2 years if the item is worn out or broken (due to a manufacturing defect). Mine is wonderful and performs admirably.

This is a great deal
5/5

I purchased the pot with the intention of casting bullets in it. I was using a ladle and a hot plate. Although that method worked, it was inconvenient. It's incredibly simple to use this pot with the spout. I believe your lead temperature is more consistent because the heating coil wraps around the pot instead of heating it from the bottom. In my shop, I used a dryer vent and a 4" in-line exhaust fan to create an exhaust system for this. This is a fantastic method.

It performs admirably
5/5

For me, this is the right size pot. I usually make a few hundred rounds at a time, so the pot size is sufficient. However, if you're serious about mass-producing bullets or casting large lead objects like dive weights or sinkers, one of the larger Lee pots might be a better choice. This is the melter for you if you're into black powder shooting and want to make smaller batches at a time to save money. It's a fantastic product with excellent quality that does exactly what it's supposed to. This one will undoubtedly serve me well for many years.

Pouring is impossible without it
4/5

The machine is small, which is convenient because it allows me to store it alongside my other supplies on the shelf. Using a machine rather than pouring by hand is far safer from a safety standpoint. There will be no splashes, spills, or clinging to hot objects. It takes about ten minutes to melt lead ingots. 15 minutes at a moderate temperature. The only reason I gave it four stars is that the opening through which metal pours out is quite small. It's great for precision, but I can't pour as quickly as I'd like. Also, be aware that the machine will emit a lot of smoke the first time you use it.

This is a fantastic place to begin
5/5

This is a great lead melting pot for anyone starting out in bullet casting. I've had it for a year and have had no issues with it. The pot heats up quickly and I've never had a problem with it working. There is a slight adjustable measure on it for the amount of LED you want to come out of the spout, which is very helpful when casting bullets. If you plan on doing large scale bullet casting, I would definitely recommend a larger pot.

I would give this a 0 if I could, I ran it on medium as instructed and was amazed at how quickly it melted, I had high hopes for this pot, and 30 minutes later after putting my pure lead into it, one of the electrodes exploded in me, sparks flew everywhere and my hand was slightly burt
3/5

After that, it gradually shut down and burned out, leaving me with a pile of fluxed lead that I can't get rid of. A few bucks have been squandered. Lee has disappointed me greatly.

Great melting pot for a reasonable price, which arrived promptly and in good condition
5/5

Pot appears to be unsteady, but due to the balancing effect, it feels more secure when lead is added. For safety's sake, I recommend a very sturdy base. If a drip leak develops, gently turn the pour spout plunger from side to side with a screwdriver (a slot on top will assist you). Before using the pot for the first time, make sure to "season" it. Turn on the stove and heat/burn any leftovers from the manufacturing and shipping process. With your first pour, this will help to reduce some of the smoke.

a lot of joy When I first plugged it in, it filled the room with smoke, which scared me
5/5

I was fairly certain this was normal, but just in case, I grabbed the fire extinguisher. I'm guessing the factory lubricant or packing grease was on fire. There was no smoke the second time I used it or any subsequent times. Melts are fantastic for taking the lead. This makes me very happy!.

It performs admirably, is safe, and is simple to operate
4/5

It heats up quickly, taking less than 10 minutes to melt 5 pounds of lead. Valve is dependable, and the stream is extremely manageable. It is both safe and simple to use. The only issue is that the thermostat is very crude, and if you increase the setting even a small amount after the charge has melted, the melt temperature overshoots by at least 150 degrees Fahrenheit (as confirmed by a thermocouple thermometer). My advice is to leave the set point alone, wait for it to warm up, and then relax.
