Remove the hose from the backpack and hang it upside down. Make sure the hose is in the open position. Squeeze the air out of the bag until it fills up with water.
I keep mine in a camelbak; I'm not sure what size it is, but it fits perfectly in my bag.

up to the point of a hydration bladder It does what it's supposed to do. But my problem with it is that the cap assembly is so large that it won't fit in my pack like the others I've tried. Its handle adds to its height, which makes it difficult to fit into the pocket of a hydration pack. Note that I'm wearing a Badlands Hunting pack that secures my bladder. If your bladder is stored in a loose-fitting pocket in your pack, this product will work fine.
Fortunately, I already have a better Source bite valve (Tactical Helix High Flow; Tactical Helix High Flow; Tactical Helix High Flow; Tactical Helix High Flow; Tact color: Be aware that you will most likely need to spend money now or in the near future to replace the stock valve with something that works (coyote, cost about nine dollars via Prime), which I had bought to fix this issue when I encountered leakage with the older version of this product; be aware that you will most likely need to spend money now or in the near future to replace the stock valve with something that works. br>br>With Prime shipping and a price of less than ten dollars, I had high hopes for this. I have the previous version, and this new one has a lot of improvements. After factoring in aftermarket parts, the final "real" cost of this item is closer to $20.
I bought these to replace the ones that came with our backpacks, and they're great! The originals were annihilated thanks to our cat. This one is nice, but I prefer the on/off switch for the water flow, which is easily controlled at the mouthpiece, and the fact that the mouthpiece is detachable, which allows us to thoroughly clean the tubes.
It was great and didn't leak at all. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that it won't fit in the pack that came with my original Outdoor Products bladder (it's taller). Mine was several years old, and I'm sure this was a redesign, but it was inconvenient because I had to buy a new pack to make it fit.
Before using it, I did soak it twice in vinegar water and clean it with dawn dish soap. The first time I used it, it was so revolting that I had to spit it out and ended up dehydrated. It was unbearable, and none of my family members had the strength to deal with it.
I've never been able to locate these in a store.
I bought this to replace an older pouch with a leaky hose and mouthpiece. The hose connection on the older one was a snap-on affair. When the hose is removed, the pouch connection should seal. There's a screw on this one. The hose is awkward to connect, and if you remove it with a full pouch, the water will spill out all over you. The shut-in mouth piece is fantastic with the new mouth piece. feature is disabled It has a large fill opening, which is a nice feature.
It got into the wrong hands. The shutoff valve was ineffective, and the mouthpiece dripped drip drip.
