The best aspect of this bladder is that it appears to be durable. However, there are a few issues that I wish I had been more aware of before making the purchase. For starters, the tube is extremely stiff and will only bend in the direction in which it was molded. As a result, the magnet is largely ineffective; the tube will not adhere to it in the manner depicted in the image. Second, getting water out of the bite valve necessitates the use of suction. Like my other bladders, I can't just pinch it to squirt some water for my dog on a hike. When you put cleanser in the tube, you must also suck it out to clean it. Finally, there isn't a valve cover. It's not very sanitary if you don't have one.
Why hadn't this occurred to anyone before? It's so obvious that the flat side is best - Rather than feeling like a football filled with water on your back, it sits flat on your back. It has a nice, wide opening that is simple to close - There are no fiddly lids to align the arrows; it simply screws on. It has a large rigid handle that makes filling it from the faucet or filtering water into it easier, and there's a hook to hang it upside down to dry it out when you're done. The only drawback is the end from which you drink - The water is released in two small streams with a low flow rate. I'm thinking of replacing it with a regular Camelbak to improve the flow. Otherwise, I got these in both sizes that were available, and this went through a rim-to-rim process. With no problems, I hiked the Grand Canyon's rim, filtering water from streams and having a great bladder.
Great product. br>While the magnet did not work miracles for me due to my chest size, it is extremely useful to have. br>The three-litter size that I have is ideal because it eliminates the need for frequent refilling. Spend some time filtering/purifying your water, and you'll be ready to go for a long walk without worrying about dehydration. br>For me, one of the most useful features is the ability to detach the drinking tube, making bladder refilling much easier and faster.
This was great (sturdy) until the third use, when it began to leak. Between uses, I gently cleaned the outside, drained the remaining water, and carefully stored it in an empty kitchen cabinet. It leaked water all over my backpack and onto the carpet in the passenger compartment of my car on the third use. This product has made me extremely unhappy.
The only flaw I found was the mouthpiece lock, which is difficult to open so you can drink. As of this review, I've only used it once, so I can't say how well it will hold up.
This is the third hydration system I've tried, and it's by far the best; the detachable drinking tube makes it simple to refill the bladder without having to remove the tube. Even easier to remove is the attached handle. I've had no leaks from either the bladder cap or the drinking tube after ten days of heavy use.
The only reason I gave it four stars is because of the shut off valve. Right out of the gate, it snapped off. In my opinion, it is a bad design. It appears to push up, but it does not appear to do so. A twist valve, such as the Osprey's, would have been preferable. But, as I previously stated, this is just my opinion. Everything else, on the other hand, is fantastic. It has a self-drying hook and a handle for easy refilling, which I like. There is a disconnect hose so you don't have to remove the entire hose to refill. Except for the bit valve shut off, it's a fantastic product.
It's much better in the newer version. There is a quick disconnect near the reservoir's top. The handle is very useful. These are prone to leaking at the baffle seam after a few years of use. To keep the seam from rubbing, I use a piece of gorilla tape. I've been using it every day for three years and it's still going strong. These will last for a long time with a four-year warranty.
