It is dependent on the nature of the wound. Use a gloved finger, cotton ball, or cotton swab to squirt directly on the wound and spread it around, or apply it to one of those and wipe the wound.

When I couldn't find anything better to ship faster, I bought this. My son was involved in a grease fire, and I required a large amount of assistance. He described the solution as a watery, painful, almost burning substance that provided no relief.
