It is a great fit for someone who is a beginner. If you have good rackets and have played with $2, then you should be able to win. You can quickly tell how different this shuttlecock is from others because it is 50 to the dozen. There are different types of shuttlecocks, each of which has a different speed and fly. It is not possible to master drop and slice techniques with this shuttlecock. However, feather shuttlecocks won't help you in competitions. You may be able to practice them, but you'll lose right away. Considering the length of time shuttlecocks can last as a leisure player, I believe one shuttlecock can easily last two years.
