In the grass, it holds up quite well. We used it on the front lawn and it was a huge success.
It doesn't need to be staked down because it stands on its own. It would look fantastic on the beach, in my opinion.
Metal.

I bought this net on the spur of the moment to play with my family outside our apartment on a nice grassy area. Its fun! We didn't have high expectations for the price, but we were pleasantly surprised. The net is folded in plastic and comes in a carrying bag with a small mesh portion, drawstring, and handle. Without using the instructions, it was very simple and quick to put together. At first, I couldn't figure out how to get the two sizes mentioned in the product description - However, based on the images, it appears that the second height option is simply to go smaller, which is achieved by not fully unfolding the frame. The net slips over the tops of the poles and is sewn together at the top to keep it from slipping; it's not as tight as a regular sports net, but it gets the job done. It's more enjoyable to play a casual game of volleyball or badminton than to compete in a serious match. The frame is lightweight and portable, both when packed and when set up. I wish they'd included a separate tie bag or case for the net because I'm afraid it'll get tangled or snagged on the poles if it's kept in the carrying case. However, for the price, I would strongly suggest this product!.
When it was set up on the grass for children to play, it was fantastic. However, it rained this past weekend, and the metal rusted completely! We moved it off the grass to clean it, and tons of rusty water poured out of all the metal junctions, completely ruining my stone patio! This low-cost, low-quality metal product is not worth it!!.
This was the perfect gift for my grandchildren; it's a good size for family entertainment. What I liked best about it was how simple it was to put together. It's so simple that it practically sets itself up. My grandkids, aged 10, 6, and 4, assisted me in putting it together. It was well worth the money!.
To make it taller, we bought PVC pipes, which works perfectly. When not in use, it is simple to stow.
The ball bounced back beautifully. Update: The net disintegrated after being exposed to the sun, whether direct or indirect. I don't have a net anymore; all I have are the poles. I wanted to fall in love, but now I'm thinking it was a waste of time and money.
When not in use, put it away inside. It's very simple to put together. Tennis was played with a net. I was very pleased with the net until it began to rip at the seams as a result of stretching it over the poles. The net then began to rip, with more tearing on the ends, possibly as a result of dry rot. Very let down. I'll need to go out and buy a new net. I believe the dry rot and tearing were caused by prolonged exposure to the sun or damp air. So, if you buy this item, make sure to keep it in a garage after every use!.
I'm very happy.
It is simple to erect. Although it is a little shorter than I had anticipated, we enjoy playing volley ball with this net.
