Questions & Answers

Is the conditioner supposed to feel like a lotion or should it be liquid like water?

It's not as thick as lotion, but it's not as thin as water either.

Is this compatible with Nike Vapor One footballs?

It is a leather football conditioner. So long as your football isn't composite and is made entirely of leather, you're good to go. It should, in my opinion, aid in the treatment of the condition. prepare for the football game

Is it possible to remove scratches from a leather football with this method?

Light scratches should be removed, but the color of the football will darken. Use the entire Wilson kit if you're breaking in a football. Buff, spray, and condition.

Selected User Reviews For Wilson Football Prep Conditioner (8 oz)

Everything went smoothly
5/5

For the football, it was ideal. It's a little pricey if you're just a casual football fan like me, but what can you do? This definitely helped to condition and improve the grip on my leather football, which I enjoy. If you have other leather items, you can probably use this on them as well, though I would 'test a discrete section' first, as they always advise.

This stuff is fantastic for bringing an old leather football back to life
5/5

I used to have an old Duke from the 1970s that wouldn't hold air and I had to give up on it years ago. I came across it recently while cleaning out a closet and thought it would be interesting to see if I could bring it back to life. br>br>I called Wilson (inflatables division) and was told that the bladder and laces could be replaced for $20. Alternatively, they can send you a new bladder and laces for $5 and you can do it yourself. I chose the latter because it seemed like it would be more enjoyable. I mailed a $5 check, expecting nothing in return. But, to my surprise, the replacement bladder and laces arrived in less than a week. Wilson deserves a lot of credit for his outstanding customer service. Wilson did send instructions, despite the fact that the information the rep gave me stated that they were not included. Excellent and well-written instructions with pictures for each step. br>br>I was able to extract the old rubber bladder from the carcass (it was glued to the inside of the ball) after removing the old laces (just cut them off, these were old woven cloth). I followed the instructions and inserted the new bladder (which is a translucent vinyl-coated bladder). akin to substance). If you're doing it yourself, pull the new inflation nipple through with a pair of Vice-Grips. After trimming the nipple stem, I laced up the football with a baseball glove lacing awl (around $5 on Amazon) (the new laces are plastic with three nylon cords running through them for strength). I got it laced up after a few tries and following the directions; it wasn't perfect, but it was good enough. br>br>After that, I tried this product - which RESTORED the color of the leather as well as bringing it back to life after it had dried out. It's truly amazing. I used the Wilson game ball prep kit to apply a few coats of tack bar wax after allowing it to dry for 20 minutes. My old Duke now appears to be in good shape for another 50 years of rain and mud abuse. It has excellent tack and feel in the hand, and since it's been (extremely) broken in, it actually feels better than new. If you have an old, battered leather football, this stuff can really bring it back to life. The entire experience has exceeded my expectations. I've since used it (along with the wax and brush) on a couple of less-ancient NFL footballs, and they're fantastic. This stuff is great for those who are already broken in - I'm not sure if it would add much to a brand new ball, but it is great for those who are already broken in. It's worth it to use it in conjunction with the game ball prep kit.

It's fine for routine maintenance, but it's not ideal for breaking in a new ball
4/5

Although it's a good product, there are better conditioning products available for conditioning a ball right out of the box. This is, however, ideal for the occasional touch-up required to keep a ball in good condition after use. Fiebing's Neatsfoot Oil is recommended for the initial break-in period. It softens the leather and gives it the dark color that you've come to expect from it.

Provides a nice dark color to the ball
5/5

This is the product for you if you want your ball to look more like the Game balls. Make sure you have the brush and tack bar on hand because you must brush the ball before applying the conditioner!.

I was able to save my football
5/5

I don't usually write reviews, but this product exceeded my expectations. I had a 20-year-old Wilson Duke ball that I feared had seen better days. I followed the instructions to the letter, and it now appears to be nearly new. I didn't use much, but I've heard that a treatment once a year will keep it in good shape.
