For a four year old, I think it is too big. I recommend it for children between the ages of 8 and 10.
You will receive a helmet with a throat guard as part of the set
Girls were slightly older than the equipment and the girls were much too big for it. We were able to fit 12U girls in it The trip had to be cut short due to the weather.

Here is the bad stuff first. There are some differences between the item shipped and what is pictured. There is no McGregor brand on the helmet. It is Rawlings. An elongated chin on the helmet serves only to cover the chin, but a separate neck shield is attached to the mask to protect the throat. There is also no solid color on the chest protector. As far as the chest protector is concerned, the "Scarlet" set is mostly red, but the silver stripes are quite large. I don't think it's a big deal, but it's not what the picture portrays. That's a good thing. I think he will enjoy wearing these shin guards. In most of the size small sets we have tried, the shin guards hit him at the top of his thigh when he stands When he is standing, the chest protector hangs lower on him than when he is squatting, however when he is in his catchers squat, it comes up higher and protects his upper sternum properly. It is possible to move these shoulder protectors wherever you want to. They come with Velcro in/out so you can move them as needed. While my son enjoys the way the helmet feels, he finds it a bit tricky to put on with two hands. To protect the neck, the helmet also has a bit of plastic on the back. If your child is of average height to below average height in the six to twelve year old range, this set is a good choice for them In the range of 10 years.
The coach pitch was a gift for my daughter, who is five, for her first year. I really like that gear, but it was a little on the large side for I chose it for him because he is a little on the small side, and I wanted him to be able to wear it for a long time. Our biggest problem with the shin guards was that he is too small to stay squatted for a whole game, so he bends one knee down and they seem to come undone repeatedly, which makes it difficult for him to play. On of these occasions, he was hit with a ball in the knee as a result. Having cut the very top part of the cord off made it easier, and the ends did not come undone as much as they did previously. There was no way to tighten the chest protector tight enough for him, and I didn't like that you weren't able to do so on both sides, only one, so the back was This was also used as a practice resource for my 10 year old after he was promoted to back up catcher. There is no doubt this is an excellent resource for anyone raising a little one who is going to be a.
At 52 pounds, he is huge! It is a bit big on him to wear this catcher's gear. The reason I bought it for him is that he would probably not be able to grasp the ball aggressively It would have been better if I had tried to find age 5 to 7, but I think that would have been more difficult There may not be as much protection for the ball.
This gear has just been delivered by UPS. As worried as I was that it would be too small for our 10U baseball team, I am glad to report that it is exactly the same size as the equipment we have (I was looking for a backup set as we chest pad measures about 19 inches from top to bottom. We recommend purchasing this helmet in a Youth 6 1/2 to 7 size. I couldn't remember how long the leg guards were, but I believe they were 17 or 19 inches long.
I needed to give you a five-star While the chest protector in the picture is a little incorrect, I prefer the one that was shipped with grey across it. My order was placed on March 3rd, and my delivery should arrive on September 9th November 11. A delivery was made on May 5th! THE SIZE IS JUST RIGHT FOR MY 7 YEAR OLD AND I AM SO HAPPY WITH IT. It's a pleasure to work with you.
It was a Christmas hit. The chest protector was a little big for him, but that will change next year.
The product is in line with the description. This set is a nice one for kids.
I have used this gear since the beginning of the season, and it has held up very well. Because she is small for her age, it was difficult to find a helmet that fit and this fits great. If she had one edit, she would have preferred a lighter weight mask rather than a full size helmet, so we may have to replace it if she continues to play.
