In addition to using it with iOS and Android, I've also successfully used it with Microsoft products

When it's wireless, why does it have an ethernet cable, and if it's not required, is it possible to remove it?

Trailer cameras and barn cameras can both be used with the 0218. The set can be wired or wirelessly connected to the router if it is decided to use it as a barn cam. Is it possible to run it on the 9V battery for a reasonable amount of time?

In the case of ball and hitch hookup, the battery will not last longer than 30 minutes for initial setup or use in a trailer park. A 12V power adapter comes with the set however, it should be hard-wired to the trailer's light power. The trailer should be hooked up to the camera as the main source of power To avoid having to run wires to power the camera you may use a portable battery pack called an "Emergency jump start battery pack". Such a portable battery pack can run the camera for up to 40 hours. You can find such a battery pack at Amazon. Thanks a lot.

Battery life is a 2 out of 5 star rating, however the camera is good
3/5

A horse trailer came with this camera. There is no significant difference in battery life between the two. This camera works just fine, but I will have to have it hardwired.
