Questions & Answers

With this bit, do you need to use a curb strap?

An Arab endurance horse that I own is very forward (and opinionated). The curb I use has a chain, so yes, I have one.

An Arabian is usually about what size do you think? Are you looking at a no 5 or a no ?

A small head and mouth, such as those of Arabs, requires a 4 3/4. For a "standard" Quarter Horse, it is 5 inches. The size of your Arab will depend on how tall he is, but he should be at least

When ordering bits, how do you know what size to choose?

Essentially, the purpose of the Myler bit is to make your horse as comfortable as possible in the mouth. Ensure that you are using the correct size. bit. That is one simple step towards the goal. Measure your horse to ensure you buy the right bit, unless you have been using a Myler bit all along and know what size it is. Myler bits fit a little differently than traditional bits because they have a subtle curve which allows them to fit better over the horse's A Myler bit will also be 1/8" larger than the stated size since the Myler company wants the bit to have at least 1/8" to 1/4" of bit on either side. Using a wooden dowel or the handle of a wooden spoon will allow you to measure your horse with great accuracy. Placing the dowel in your horse's mouth where the bit should be located will help you determine what is most comfortable. I'm sorry. Once the horse has relaxed in his mouth and has stopped chewing the dowel, you may release him. I'm sorry. Put the dowel on the sides of the face where the lips end, where the lips meet. I'm sorry. The dowel needs to be removed and the distance between the marks measured. The most popular size is 5", followed by 5 1/2", then You should choose the size that is closest to your measurement, but up rather than down to make sure it's not too tight. As long as the horse's headstall is adjusted properly, and the bit is centered within the mouth, you should see at least 1/8" to 1/4" of bit on either side of the horse's mouth when the bit is properly fitted. In order to prevent rubbing or chaffing on the horses' cheeks or lips, the cheekpiece should not sit snugly against their faces. Your horse's cheekpiece should be able to fit between its face and the cheekpiece. Even if you are confident you measured correctly and the bit still seems too big or too small, you may want to check the adjustment on the Bits that sit too high or too low will have an effect on how the bit fits within the mouth of your horse. The conformation of every horse is a little bit different. It has long been viewed as the "medium" of bitting, but you cannot assume your horse has a mouth that size. The sizing will likely go out of whack if your lips are soft, your muzzle is narrow or you have a heavy muzzle. *If the size that you require is not available in the cheekpiece/mouthpiece that you want, you can contact the Mylers directly to order a custom made version in the size that you need. A horse that was ridden in a twisted wire snaffle that is middle-aged is re-ridden
5/5

The horse has a somewhat interesting history. It was owned by an inexperienced rider using a twisted-wire It was discovered he had been trained by a trainer before he was given to me by the person who sold him to me. In response to leg cues, he would growl, spurs would emerge, and he would become very nervous upon slight mouth cues. He was very worked up when saddled when I bought him. He had biting problems, to say the least.
*I would like a clear way of communicating that would not require complicated mechanism and that is not harsh on As it turns out, this level Myler bit fits my needs. There was no magic bullet to fix everything overnight. Rather than saddle him until I taught him trust, respect, and gentle responsiveness on the ground, I began to earn trust and respect on the ground first. This bit didn't relax him and focus him enough for two weeks, once I introduced it. I had to get him to trust that it wouldn't hurt him immediately. I'm unsure why I didn't use a hackamore, for those of you who were wondering. His head and nose have severely scarred from where the halter attached itself to his head. I love this bit. It's working well for me and my son. keep in mind that some bits can only be as good as the person who holds the reign over them.

Has a lot of power
4/5

I thought this bit was well made and very nice. There was a 5 in my order. I used a Spotted Draft of 5" and it was huge. My measurements were over 6" (I used two different measuring tools because I thought I was nuts). It is recommended that you order a size smaller. You may return the size For a 5, you need to write 5".

It is sized
3/5

It was a great product, but the size was too large for my Welsh Pony. I had to return it. Her 4 1/2" needed to be 4 1/2" so she couldn't get one. Her current bit is a 4 3/4" Glory Butterfly bit that fits perfectly. Unfortunately, I wanted a more flexible bit and this bit would have fit the bill if the sizing/fit was like the Glory bit. I was very disappointed as I was look forward to using it.

This is not a good idea

It has always been Myler bits for me. I would say no, it didn't! I noticed that it was very rusty at his mouth the first time I used it. One of my previous ones had a brass roller. I'm not sure that's the best one. Since I first started using myler bits, I've never looked back. I am not satisfied in the least.

It's awesome to have bits from Myler! It is awesome that Myler produces such great products! If you notice any rust in certain bits from this company, that is an example of how it is designed so that the horse's salivation increases, similar to how we chew gum to moisten our mouths! I am in love with Myler's designs and methods of

We are very happy with her
5/5

This is finally a bit that my mare is content with - thick lips and a thick tongue. Its size is too narrow and it's 5 1/2 inches too wide, but she's happy with it so I kept.

This is great for horses that are difficult to turn
5/5

Wow, what a brilliant idea. I can leverage this bit to my advantage. Despite my horse's strong will, he can be stubborn & stubborn You have a hard time turning the wheel. I put my leg over this bit and made my way back to the car I give him a shake of my wrist. He turns around. He does not need to be pulled on the.
