A rectangle tray usually works best, as they have a relatively small footprint and a large runway for the dice to roll on. If you are playing with multiple players at the same time at the same table, a large hexagonal or circular dice tray is a great communal tray. There are lots of ways in which you can use this dice tray. This tray feels well constructed at the price point, and the interior felt material is sturdy, even when using heavy, metal dice. The tray itself is the perfect size, to my mind, since I primarily use plastic dice. When in use, it hardly takes up any table space and I can easily keep three sets of rpg dice in it while I'm playing, and still have room to roll when necessary.
