It's simple to put together and install, but I'm not sure how durable it is. Because the item is assembled with a few wood screws rather than machined holes, it is unlikely to withstand repeated disassembly and reassembly, and I'm not sure if it will stay together tightly even with long-term use. use on a consistent basis In addition, one of the holes used to secure the chalk platform to the wall mount was overdrilled on the item I received. I had to use an oversize screw I had on hand to secure the screw. It's not a major issue, but it does point to a possible quality control problem. Finally, it only requires one screw to secure it to the wall. Drilling a hole for a second mounting point is not difficult, but you must decide whether you want to go to the trouble of doing so or trust it to stay firmly in place with just one screw. Don't get me wrong: it's not bad; in fact, I gave it four stars. It simply has a few flaws that could have been avoided if the factory had given the overall engineering a little more thought.
For two reasons, I am extremely disappointed. Reason 1: The screw that held the lion's head in place was too long and bottomed out before the lion's head was tightened, so it spun on the wood during shipping, leaving multiple scratches in the finish. Reason 2: No matter how many little air bags they package around the chalk in this box, if it arrives looking like Ace Ventura delivered it, I was expecting damage and the chalk was broken into three pieces, which isn't very appealing when stacking chalk on a stand that is supposed to have a nice cone of chalk. I'm sure it would have arrived faster and in better condition if I had paid an extra $8 for shipping.
The item was delivered in good time. In the item, there were three chips that needed to be repaired. A few more dings could be found here and there. There were no screw holes that were large enough or deep enough for a screw to go all the way in. In addition, one of the horizontal piece's holes was 1/16th of an inch off. As a result, the horizontal piece did not sit properly in the groove. The horizontal piece was not even with the vertical piece on each side after being screwed together (it was slightly in on one side and slightly protruding on the other). The wood appears to be of good quality and appears to be darker than it appears in the photo (in the photo, it appears to be dark red, but in person, it appears to be super dark red (almost black).
The little knocker on the bottom adds character to this chalk holder, which is well made. In person, it appears to be cooler than it appears in the photo. It perfectly holds the chalk and has a nice dust ring in the bottom to catch any excess chalk before it falls to the floor. The only criticism I have is that there is only one mounting hole on the top, which is why it did not receive five stars. This is something that will be handled by a group of not-quite-sober burly men who don't care about its well-being. Pivoting on a single screw hole appears to be a bad idea. In my opinion, a solid mount with holes at the top and bottom would have worked much better, and when I have a minute, I'll add another hole, which will only take 30 seconds, so this isn't a big deal. Otherwise, it's exactly what I was looking for, and I'd recommend it to anyone. Oh, and it comes with the chalk shown, which I didn't realize until I ordered extra, so I now have a lifetime supply of chalk.
I bought one for my pool room and went on to buy three more for friends. It's a big hit with everyone. It has a ring to hold a towel and looks like something out of an English pub. The first one I purchased is approaching four years old and still looks brand new.
Even the mounting hardware was included! Unfortunately, I was unaware that it came with the chalk, so I placed a separate order for a new chalk cone. However, I'm glad I had the extra because the one that came with it was broken on the bottom due to shipping. Overall, it isn't a brand new vehicle, but it fulfills its purpose and does so in a stylish manner. I'd make another purchase!.
It's a great product that's simple to set up. The craftsmanship isn't "fine," but it's a great value for the money. For a reasonable price, you can get good quality.
