I bought the Sabre 13oz home defense gel in June 2017 and have kept it beside my bed since then. We had an intruder in our house last night (2/26/19). As the advertisement only states a shelf life of four years, I selected this from the manufacturer in order to ensure I received a fresh batch. However, it came to me with an expiration date of 4/22, which means that the can has less than three years remaining. It is evident that this is an old batch of film. Considering the price of these, it would be better to get nearly 4 years out of the product as described in the advertisement. It is a little disappointing that the product is over 13 months old when it only has a 4 year shelf life. Moreover, I did not realize that returns are not allowed on this type of product, as I would return it if I were able to.

I can't imagine what it would have been like This product does exactly what it is advertised to do. There is a dog that terrorizes our street that belongs to one of our neighbors. There have been several occasions when animal control has been called in to handle their situation. My 5-year-old daughter was walking from our gate to the car during this particular time. My wife and I were putting our luggage into the car, and our luggage was loaded into our I grabbed my daughter, ran inside our gate, and probably missed the dog by a foot when I saw that the dog was running towards her. Despite being trapped inside, the dog jumped at our gate barking and we were stuck inside. A little spray from this baby and he soon ran away. Reviews for the SPRAY version of this product remained on Amazon since it used to be a Home Defense SPRAY. A gel version of the spray has been introduced by the manufacturer since the spray has been discontinued. The GEL version should have been issued a new product and reviews should have been conducted from scratch since it is a different product.

The GEL version offers the advantage of not atomizing and not cross-contaminating the user inside.

I was injured by the jagged packaging when it arrived (cut on the back of my index finger by the jagged packaging) at the time of shipping, it appeared that the packaging was opened.
