Is it possible to use a freak barrel kit with my dsr?

If you've got a Freak barrel, then yes.

I just bought a used marker with a freak barrel and an insert (I believe it's a freak xl), so can anyone tell me how long these inserts last before I buy?

If it's an xl insert, it should say freak xl on it; if not, the original geek backs were 6 inches long, so if it's longer, it's most likely an xl insert.

Are these inserts compatible with the shocker xls freak barrel kit?

Only the freak XL barrels fit these, so if your shocker came with an XL barrel, yes. I use them with the shocker cvo's barrel.

This barrel kit does a fantastic job. When compared to stock or non-custom, it makes a HUGE difference in shot spread, consistency, and accuracy. barrel with holes in it I've never owned a barrel like this.
