Questions & Answers

Is the picatinny mounting included in the package. ?

The one I have also does not include a mount. In addition, Amazon customer service refused to send me the mounting bracket that Caldwell also produces. This is unimaginable.

The mount on the catcher frame can be adjusted forward and backward in response to available rail slots, depending on which one is open on ?

You can tightly tighten the screw just enough to hold it in place the mount still slides back and forth and can be used on a variety of rifles.* I use this mount on my DPMS AR-72. There are 15 in all, one on my Savage A17 17Hmr, and one on my S&ampG 1160 W. M. & Co. Page 15 of 15 As long as your bolt action rifle has a full Picanny/Weaver mount on it under the scope somewhere you can put them on everything*br>got to add. if you have a AR-15 you can put a weaver mount on it. If your 15 is high with a 1" riser and low rings, then its metal frame does not hang low enough for the ejection port dust cover to be clear, so you may have to bend the frame at the lower sides. It has been a week since I mailed caldwell about that problem

Is it made in a certain place?

Battenfield is a subsidiary of the Smith &amp Company, a company whose parent company is Smith &amp Canfield I hope this is helpful, Wesson

In addition to purchasing one, I'm planning on purchasing another pic rail mount so I can use it on ARs and hunting rifles alike. Have you been unable to locate mounts?

I ordered both from Amazon at the same time.

There is a lot to like about it, but it would be A brass catcher such as this is likely to be at the top of the list
4/5

There is an adjustment screw on the rail once you realize the position of the hidden screws. With Velcro attached to the netting, it is easy to remove the net from the frame. A simple sliding motion secures it to the rail mount, but it is still removable. It is held just in place so that it doesn't fall off, but it will not fall off if it falls. The connection is made through the use of a spring-loaded ball bearing. It is a good catcher, and I would buy it again if I needed it. The melting of the bottom does present a minor problem. There is a thin layer of PVC material making up the net. It appears to be a melting issue in a particular place where the shells touch the netting. It takes 223 shells to do this. In this situation, the shells are fired from the AR and hit the shell deflector on the upper receiver, causing the shell to rotate around and consequently hit first the nose of the netting. This is naturally the hottest part of the shell at the time it is fired. The molten metal will start to burn a small hole in that location after a while. Eventually the shells can either come out of the hole they create, or they will become stuck in there. Two of the catchers I bought for AR15s with different platforms have had this issue. Besides my 308 rifle, I also have an AR10-style rifle in 308 caliber. This does not happen with that rifle as the ejection process is different, therefore it cannot detect the problem. It would be great if you could send me pictures of the damaged In order to make the netting wall work, I attached some leather suede on the inside of the mesh By doing so, the shell will hit the leather once it ejects and prevent it from tearing. That has worked for me so far.

Here's an update
3/5

Although the nylon bag fits well, it is melting from the heat of the The update is Putting 200- and 300-yard shots after a couple of days at the range As the mesh nylon bag of the catcher has been used for 300 rounds, there are holes forming There have been several places where the nylon mesh has melted and now there are large holes through which cases can pass. mesh bag is the weak link, as it does not fit well or operate properly. You will not be able to use this bag if you shoot a lot. In the future, I will look for another solution for AR brass catchers. The only option that works for less than $100 is this one. In the end, Caldwell got it done. I previously used their model that had velcro wraparound on the hand guard, which did not work as well as real brass catcher. They have now created brass catcher that works as it should and fits most AR setups. The solution did not work well, but the options were limited unless you wanted to spend well over $60 a month on it One hundred dollars. As you can see, the clamp is adjustable so that you can find a place on the top rail where your optic will fit if you have one Adding a way to mount it on a picatinny handguard would make it the perfect AR brass catcher. If they could combine those options, the AR brass catcher would be perfect. The only negative thing about extra rail clips is that they are very costly.

It has some flaws but is still an OK brass catcher
3/5

My brass catcher is tied with a velcro strap, and is less expensive than Caldwell's brass catcher. The unit was a disappointment to me due to its unreliability and inflexibility. I think it is pretty obvious that the AR was purpose-built for it. My hope was that I might be able to use it in other firearms, but ultimately I was not successful. In the case of my AR, it was finicky as well. As hard as it was, I had a hard time keeping it tight. I found the Velcro on setup worked fine when it was parked, but once it moved I had ejection problems. As a result, I decided to purchase this product hoping it would allow me to mount the bag more securely on firearms that the Velcro on setup would not For the first time, I took it to the range today to try with two firearms I was hoping to use it with. The first had a Magwedge rail on the SKS, and the second had a C308 rail. In spite of this, it worked perfectly with the SKS once it was positioned correctly. As for the charging handle, I was able to move it to a position where it did not interfere with It only took me a few minutes to locate the right spot and collect the casings. My experience with the C308 was not good when I switched from the 430. Despite the fact that this mount could not support the recoil of my rifle, it was still useful. It doesn't take me more than a few rounds to get one of two things going This result is due either to loosening of the screw that holds the camera mount or to the catcher popping free from the socket on the camera mount and In general, I could have passed on this gun since the HK91 has heavy recoil, but I also found that after only 20 rounds I was melting the bag. I'm going to put some sort of liner in the bag to deal with the melting, but I'm not sure how I'm going to prevent it from A bit of thread locker should help with the pic rail mount, but I don't know what to do about the catcher popper that has been released It would be nice if the mounting system was If there were a latch or something that held it tight and enabled me to disengage it with a push of a button, that would work better for me. As I work on it with a few more handguns, I'll let you know how it goes. In my opinion, I wouldn't knock points off for not being compatible with a specific gun, as it was really designed for AR-15s. My strike-offs are due to the fact that the design isn't very secure, and the fact that it melts.

This is the perfect fit for my Springfield Saint AR-type rifle As far as AR-related issues go, I think most are pretty simple A scope will be mounted too low on a 15's with Picatinny rails, which would cause clearance issues when mounting this brass catch
5/5

I was lucky enough to have the rear of the scope barely clear my rear sight, but it was actually very close to it, maybe even My Caldwell mount was never able to be mounted regardless of where I attempted to mount it. Having the basket fit flush to the receiver is the best way to attach it. It will be nearly impossible to push the bag up against the receiver if you attach the mount in the middle of the rifle's rail under the scope. It is necessary to purchase a set of Weaver 1/2" risers for this problem. I was able to mount the Caldwell attachment rail perfectly with plenty of clearance because that solved all the clearance issues. Having the scope rise by 1/2" is not a problem for me. Seeing it in again is all I have to do. Even though I have not tested it yet, I am certain that it will operate as described. The mesh may melt with hot rounds, but not according to the complaints I have heard. This is addressed by Caldwell, who indicates that the mesh is heat-resistant. Their word is good enough for me. Possibly if you were using automatic fire, you might experience a problem. I am very impressed with the quality of the product and I don't think I have to run around policing brass any more.
