His recent interest in fly fishing has led him to develop an interest in making his own This kit was a Christmas present for him. The kit was worth every penny I wonder if I would have been able to afford it otherwise. Almost everything you need is included in the package. Keeping him occupied while he watches the DVD and makes flies is so much fun. We can get you a magnifying lamp to go with it, that will sure come in handy for tying the smaller ones. This is a great kit, and it's THE BEST present he's ever received!.
In my case, I received the Orvis premium fly tying kit, which as advertised contains all the materials for each fly shown on the instructional DVD. Unfortunately, the kit did not include Even though I already bought the kit from Orvis, I cannot tie many of the patterns without going to the store and buying more material, which I already have already A number of messages have been sent to the seller, but they have not been replied to.
A great DVD for beginner fly tying. The dvd demonstrates how to tie some beautiful flies in exactly the way beginners wish to do. My only complaint about this product is that I got a lot of the wrong hook sizes for some of the flies. As an example, the fur ant uses a size 14 hook, whereas I was given a bag of 16 hooks. In the video, the hook size in the video is a 14, but the zebra midge I got came in a bag of 18. During the video, Rusty parachute is seen using size 14 and I have a bag of 12s. Caddis Elk hair use size 14 in the video whereas I have size 12. My bag of 8s is comprised of 6s, but Rubber Leg Stone uses 6s in the video. Almost every hook size I have is smaller than the one I need for the fly. In this case, you would just have to go to the local tackle store, find the appropriate hooks, and do the fix yourself. This product was good for the most part, but it did not meet my expectations.
After nearly one month and a half, my vice is already loose and not working properly. They give you enough materials to make 20 flies each, but that's unlikely. I wished I had bought a nice set of tools along the way and purchased materials.
In the past three types I have tied, I feel as if I have already learned something. There are good instructions and videos on the DVD that come with the kit. I am eager to tie the rest of them. However, some of the materials provided aren't exactly the same as the ones shown on the DVD, but it is only a difference in size. In case there's anything else I should add to my review, I'll edit it. Since I don't have to go out on the streams for nearly a month, this kit gives me something to do as I wait to get back out there!.
It contains a great deal of products that can be used to construct any of your favorite flies, as well as some you may never have considered before. The tools and accessories used in constructing your flies seem to be constructed of quality materials and should last a lifetime.
Although this kit is a decent starter set, I do have a problem with its lack of 3/32 beads I need for a number of patterns.
There are already five flies on the wing!.
