Questions & Answers

Is the cable included with the antenna? How long does cable last? Is there a way to avoid cable? Is the antenna connected to it? Is the cable end left off to make it easier to fit?

Yes, the antenna comes with a coax cable that is at least 15 feet long and plugs directly into the antenna (though it is simple to cut the cable and add a male/female PL259 connector if necessary). I recall the connector at the cable's end being turned off at first.

Is this compatible with an antenna mount that connects quickly?

On my boat, I do indeed use a quick connect antenna. Because plastic quick connects aren't strong enough for 6'-0", I recommend using a stainless quick connect. VHF antennas of at least 8 feet in length.

Is the cable visible at the bottom of the device? It would be better if it came from the bottom rather than the side. ?

You have a great VHF unit in your hands, but none of the cables come out of the bottom. I'm not sure which one you're talking about, but all cables are accessible from the housing's back.

Will using an antenna with an fm vhf splitter improve the weak fm signals that have been reported in reviews of other, less expensive antennas?

It should work, but the vhf signal may suffer as a result. I'd simply purchase a small AM/FM antenna. You can buy small ones that mount insight or tape-like ones. They perform admirably.

Selected User Reviews For Shakespeare 5225XT Galaxy VHF Antenna, 8-Feet

In my opinion, a high-quality antenna is deserving of an A
5/5

For my boat, this is a fantastic upgrade. For my boat, 6 dB is the ideal gain. Make sure you do your research; not all antennas are created equal, and db gain is crucial. With brass and copper elements, this Shakespeare antenna is beautifully made. Another 8' Shakespeare antenna for less than half the price of this one can be found if you look around. There's a good reason for this, and it has to do with a significant improvement in component quality. Every boat should have a high-quality antenna. In an emergency situation, you never know if your life depends on someone hearing you.

The most bang for your buck
5/5

This is the most cost-effective 8' antenna. For shore-based stations, it can provide ranges of up to 12 miles. This is especially useful for AIS. For two dollars more, you can upgrade your antenna. a threefold increase in price-- The main distinction is in terms of longevity. For a powerboat, I would recommend this antenna as the bare minimum. A sailboat that heels over is not a good choice. A 3db wire antenna is recommended for sailboats. br>br>Antennas at lower prices are of poor quality. Unless you have a limited amount of space, do not purchase a less expensive antenna. With the exception of the 3db base loaded wire antennas, the cheaper Shakespeare antennas are junk. In comparison to other 8' antennas, this one does quite well in real-world testing. A 16-foot antenna would be required for better performance. br>br>I also like that it has a marine threaded base, which allows it to be mounted on a stainless steel ratchet mount (plastic ratchet mounts are too weak for this antenna). This allows you to lower the antenna for trailer travel or faster speeds. I'll let you know how long it lasts. br>br>.

For the money, this is a fantastic antenna
5/5

For installation, it comes with a variety of connectors. I only needed 20' of cable bunched up because my boat has a short run. On the connector, I used solder. It would have been nice if it included the Shakespeare screw-on connector. Overall, it's a nice antenna that works well and looks good.

For the money, this is the best VHF antenna
5/5

First and foremost, any VHF antenna other than a Shakespeare Galaxy antenna would never be used by me. When you're out on the water, your ability to communicate could save your life, and the Galaxy antennas are top-notch. Their antenna now has a pre-installed pre-installed pre-installed pre-installed pre-installed Connector is soldered and small enough to rout through small holes. The terminal end simply screws into place on the pre-drilled hole. The soldered end is attached to the back of the radio with screws. Every technician understands that the antenna's effectiveness is determined by how the end is connected to the coax cable, and Shakespeare has simplified the process. br>br>My antenna arrived on time and in good condition. This is a product that I wholeheartedly endorse.

This was a replacement for an older product, and it worked perfectly
5/5

This was a replacement for an older, shorter Shakespeare antenna, and it's a fantastic product. The reception and transmission were both crystal clear. If you're doing it yourself, you'll need a soldering station to ensure that all of the electrical connections are secure. This will necessitate the use of some fundamental skills.

The 5225XT is the most cost-effective VHF antenna on the market
5/5

This antenna replaces one that was damaged in an accident (which was not caused by the antenna). This provides excellent reception and transmission while also being extremely durable. When properly stowed, I trailer my boat with no problems. The antenna has a superior coating that won't become chalky or splinter like previous antennas I've owned. A new upgrade has been added to this antenna. a connector for the end of a wire that does not require soldering. This antenna comes highly recommended by me to my friends. br>br>By the way, Amazon delivered my order in two days. It's lovely.

Recommend for those who have trouble remembering things
5/5

While transporting the boat back to the house, I left the antenna up and used it to trim a few trees. This was a perfect match and was simple to install. Hopefully, this isn't something I'll have to include with the majority of orders!.

Antenna of exceptional quality
5/5

I can pick up VHF radio broadcasts from the coast guard 20 miles away on the Great Lakes thanks to this excellent antenna. It appears to be strong and durable, and when combined with the stainless steel ratcheting mount, I expect it to last a long time.
