The answer is none of the above. In order for me to fish Pacific Halibut, I use 80lb braid for the mainline, and 80-pound mono for the second line. For the spreader bar, you can use monofilament or wire leaders of 150 pounds. No fluorocarbon is necessary when fishing for halibut since they are not line shy and you will be fishing at a depth where no light will get through.
It's only for salt water, so I only use it. When fishing for pike in fresh water, I use a steel leader 8 inches long with rubber coating
You should use this material instead of tippet if you are doing traditional fly casting. Attaching this material to your tapered leader will be done with a blood knot or double surgeon's knot.
A 50 yard spool of Seaguar Blue Label Fluorocarbon Leader in 10 pound test can be found in both 25 and 50 yard sizes on Amazon.

It has the feel of a lot stronger when I replace it with an old roll of some no-name monofilament. As well, I use a 10 pound monofilament as well, and that's just as strong. There have been at least 10 occasions when just tying a knot has caused this line to break. It is estimated that at least five fish have been lost because of It doesn't happen with my monofilament of 10 pounds, so I know I'm not the culprit.
When water is present, this line is invisible. With about 10 feet of leader attached to my braided line, my strike ratio went up and I caught more fish than the other guy, and he is a bass fishing machine.
I might tell him about the line if I catch more fish.
The leader line I bought was Seaguar Blue Leader Line, 6lb and 8lb The 'perceived' added strength and abrasion resistance of an 8lb rod can be attributed to the 8lb test for walleye jigging rods we make. It would be great to have both the 6lb and 8lb 8 pound weights are extremely fragile, usually failing at a strength that is far less than their stated weight. I settled for Berkley's fluorocarbon and threw the Seaguar Blue Leader Line in the garbage instead! I would rate this product as a failure due to its poor quality.
My order was for two 10lbs seaguar leader lines one was the correct size and the other was not. Despite all the attention, I did not think much of the label indicating 10lb weight on top of the manufacturing label. I opened it up when I needed to use it and noticed that the lines were much thicker than they normally are. On the Amazon label that I removed, it shows 80 pounds. Sadly, their mistake was not noticed until too late, and I used it after the 30 day return period had passed. Learn from this, buy them by the weight if you're ordering on Amazon or check the lines to ensure that they're the right weight if you're buying from the store.
There is no doubt that this line is top quality, but make sure the line is made in the USA and not a fake item.
It has been a favorite of mine for many years in saltwater and freshwater fishing. The fact that there is only a 25 yard radius is extremely inconvenient. This dispenser reel holds only 50 yards of line, and it's obviously designed for 500 yards. In comparison with the 3 1/2" dispenser for boat and tackle box storage for a mere 25 yards, the smaller 2 1/2" dispenser is more convenient, efficient, and maneuverable. In the future, I'm going to have to consider purchasing a Seaguar because of this.
This is the best leader I have found never have to worry about losing a fish ever. This line is the only thing I will use, and I have tried the best of the best, but this line is the best. I was fishing for steelhead in dirty water, and I landed a huge salmon 40 pounds with a 10lb leader.
The Berkeley vanish seems to be a good bit stronger. I find it much more difficult to cut my jig loose when it gets snagged up in the river.
