You can put as much or as little pressure on the vise to protect the golf clubs, however you only need a little since it is so grippy (if that's a word) that it doesn't move. It includes everything you need as you will need for nearly every job. I watched online information about regripping golf clubs and after reading it, it seemed relatively straightforward to do. The stand or table needs to have a clamp that can hold the 3" club holder, and a pan or something to catch the excess fluid and a sharp utility knife (apparently graphite shafts need a hooked blade so they won't be damaged. )
I clamp my clubs about 10" from the club head because my clamp is close to a wall and it remains stable despite how far it is from the grip. This rubber holder fits snugly around the shaft of the club and prevents the shaft from slipping. Since the grip tape strips are 9" instead of the diameter of my grips, I used one full strip for each club, plus about half an inch to overhang the butt end of the shaft that you tuck inside to create The only metals I needed to do were fairway metals and the putter, so having to use extra strips was no big deal. I placed a plastic container under the clamped club shaft to catch the excess solution that was going to get on the grip.
