A medium would have been the best choice for me. The size of my top typically fits a petite woman, because I am tall and athletic, with a small chest. The XL is the right size for me as I normally wear a 16/18. They seem to have a lot of great style in these tops, however I wish they came in I like the fit, but it is not as loose as I'd like. The tops probably will make good summer nursing tops at home, so I don't know if I will return. When I read the reviews, I almost sized up but then decided not to. I found these to be true to size. My usual size is a medium and the tops fit perfectly. The neck came a little higher than expected, but otherwise they are fine. I think it's a good deal for three at a good price. Despite being 5'9 and weighing 145 pounds, I am not a large individual. It is a shirt I bought so I can lift weights. Though I like it, I really would have preferred to have gotten mediums, namely that which I usually obtain. I like to wear my shirts a little loose, so I went with a small. The small fits well in the arms, and the waist is true to size. My preferred way to tie the knot in the back to make the shirt more fitting around my waist is by tying a knot in the back. Colors are true to description. Only a few times have I worn this shirt, so I have not given it the full 5 stars. The clothing should not be dried after washing, but instead hung to dry.
