If you use them for softball, I would recommend small, I use them for shooting trap and I am 5'10" and 175 lbs. I bought med, and they were a little tight to begin with, but they stretched out and are now perfect.

The size of a 16 year old's hands varies, not everyone has the same hands. A measurement of the inner palm and wrist should give you an accurate measurement.

I really like how comfortable the gloves are for summer and how well they fit. However, the quality is awful, since I've been using it for just 4 training sessions and now the finger seams are growing in wildflowers.
The gloves I purchased are very tight - I bought the XL size. Keeping my hands together is too much for me. I have never had that problem with any other XL-size device I need batting gloves of a certain size. A large seam runs along the edges of the gloves, causing friction and blisters on my hands at the spots where the seam meets the glove. Unfortunately, I am not a fan of these.
I work for Burlington Coat Factory and wear them only when throwing boxes away.

My review ought to matter less if you are buying these gloves for baseball purposes than for gym use so let me start out by being upfront about the fact that I do not use these gloves for baseball but am rather using them for gym purposes. It is not nice to wear gym gloves with open fingers because they appear bulky and Exercise with your bare hands will give you calluses, and I hate calluses. In order to prevent calluses, I purchased these gloves. I have so far loved the fit, finish, and appearance of the shoes. Due to the fact that they don't seem to last very long, we took off one star. I would highly recommend it!.
Bar work can be done with this. Crossfit glove that is good.
The gloves have a leather bottom, so I have kept them as my son needs them.
