Besides being washable, it has a packable bag for travel. My husband has not worn it yet, but it appears it will work. He would love it. Despite its lightweight feel, he loves it.
I am wearing a size medium, and I weigh 7 pounds. Including the stuff sack, it weighs 1 oz. A size Medium is generous for me since I have a size 41 chest. Wearing a size medium Patagonia down vest (due to a size difference between the regular and ultra-large model) This is a light weight jacket with a snug fit. If I were to guess what size you would like, I would say it would have to weigh more than 7 oz, though probably not that much.
No life vest, only a down/man-made fibre vest to keep you warm in cold weather.
Without knowing your waist or chest measurements, that is a very difficult question to answer. As far as my age goes, I can only tell you that I'm five years old It fits a woman between a size 7 and 192 who has a 33 or 34" waist and a 44" chest. Since this vest comes in big sizes, it was better to order an XL rather than a L, the size I usually take for shirts.

I used to have a Columbia down vest and loved it because it was so warm, yet you could move your arms inside, and it would fit over a sweatshirt to make you less bulky without sacrificing warmth. Sadly, I lost it, so I decided to order this one based on reviews, the description, and the price. We definitely recommend it, especially when you consider what you get. Compared to my Columbia one, this was $30, but about 17 years ago, it was $80-plus. The vest will definitely keep you warm, but it won't work if the weather is extremely cold. This garment has an elastic lining around the arm holes and waist, therefore remaining tight in those areas and preventing cold air from entering. For how warm it is, it is very lightweight. vest comes with a storage bag that is attached to the inside around the neck area. I cut it out and kept the bag that is very small and well designed. Easy to use. The fabric is very soft, but I wanted it to fit a bit snugger to keep me warm. I'm 6' about 230 pounds and usually wear an XXL shirt. There is no problem with it fitting over a regular sweatshirt as it isn't too small at all. I probably would have fit in an XXL, but the poncho would not If you are looking for a warm, comfortable, and affordable vest, I recommend this one.
